Job description

Viterbo University is seeking applicants for an Assistant Softball Coach that will help assist the head coach in managing all operations of the program including but not limited to recruiting, coaching, scheduling and fundraising. The assistant coach will provide guidance to student-athletes and maintain positive interactions with student-athletes and other department coaches and staff, university colleagues and benefactors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the coordination of the pitching staff, practices, and workouts
  • Assist with planning, execution, and management of practice and games
  • Help with opponent scouts and film breakdown
  • Assist with on and off-campus recruiting and fundraising events
  • Help with various administrative tasks and responsibilities
  • Help support the overall holistic development of student athletes
  • Support and adhere to all institutional policies outlined in the employee handbook
  • Work with a diverse constituency including, but not limited to, students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff administrators, prospective students, and other outside contacts
  • Follow all NAIA and Viterbo University rules and regulations
  • Support and embrace the five core values of the NAIA's "Champions of Character" initiative
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as delegated or assigned by the head softball coach


Qualifications:

  • Experience playing fastpitch softball (college level preferred)
  • Pitching knowledge and experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the sport and ability to teach fundamentals and skill development
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Organized and dependable
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Must be attentive to detail and be able to keep accurate records
  • Help foster and build a culture consistent with the views of the head coach
  • Background in education or coaching desired


This is a seasonal part-time position. Hours and days worked will vary depending on the time of the year (most intensive workload during the spring season). Attendance at all games and practices is expected. Pay is based on experience and time-commitment.
