Head of Marketing

Reports to

Chief Communications Officer

Summary

Responsible for leading and executing strategies that drive demand and growth for Vanguard Charitable. Leads a team of marketing professionals responsible for building brand awareness and market share using various marketing, sales and advertising strategies. Innovative, high-energy, experienced leader adept in modern marketing practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Builds and manages a diverse and high-performing team of 10 marketing professionals and third-party partners and agencies. Provides guidance, training and motivation to develop internal staff. Hires, evaluates, and counsels personnel. Establishes environment in which ideas and feedback are readily and frequently shared.
  2. Leads team and manages $1M budget to execute on strategies to increase lead acquisition and conversion across target channels and audiences. Leverages paid and unpaid digital strategies such as SEO, SEM, email marketing, social, and content marketing to attract and engage potential clients. Motivates team to innovate and experiment with strategies.
  3. Identifies and pursues new business opportunities through innovative marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships. Collaborates with sales teams to ensure alignment and maximize growth potential.
  4. Creates and executes marketing initiatives to nurture and expand existing customer relationships. Develop targeted campaigns to drive upsell and cross-sell opportunities, enhancing customer lifetime value.
  5. Oversees and approves all marketing materials and messaging. Communicates and negotiates with Vanguard Charitable counsel for review and acceptance of communications, programs, and thought leadership. Partners with Consumer Experience on client communication needs.
  6. Positions the company as an industry leader by supporting the development of thought leadership and strategic brand partnerships, showcasing Vanguard Charitable’s expertise. Serves as company spokesperson and leads relationship with third-party public relations firms.
  7. Measures and reports on the performance of marketing strategies and assesses against organizational goals to optimize strategies and improve ROI.
  8. Seeks out ways to gain insight into market motivations and client needs. Active member of marketing and communications communities to further hone and develop skills and incorporate relevant techniques into Vanguard Charitable marketing practices.
  9. Develops and maintains strong inter-department relationships to drive shared goals, enable positioning and promotion of VC’s services and products to key audiences, and keep internal stakeholders apprised of progress to goals.
  10. Contributes to enterprise strategy and priorities as a member of the Leadership Team.
  11. Leads and participates in special business-wide projects as requested.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in marketing and communications. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of demonstrated marketing/communications experience in roles with progressive responsibility.
  • Minimum of five years demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Experience working with a customer relationship management software, such as Salesforce.
  • Experience working for or with wealth management and financial services clients preferred.
  • Is adept at quickly grasping complex issues and anticipating both the short term and long-term implications of decisions.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information for the purpose of making quality decisions with a balance view of client and business. Proven aptitude for using data in decision-making.
  • Proven success collaborating with a team to deliver a project or initiative.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Excellent project management and prioritization skills.
