Location: Bessemer City                                       
Reports to: Production Manager       
 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor and PMO lead, this position is responsible for operating a packaging line or tray and scale equipment for processing value-added fresh vegetable products.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
  • Operate Hayssen packaging and scale equipment.
  • Operate tray equipment.
  • Perform set-ups and shutdowns and adjust control settings and logic.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to packaging quality, including specifications for weights, fills, seals, and the operation of trays and film runs.
  • Conduct quality checks, manage product and film changeovers, make mechanical adjustments, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Assist the dryer, packaging, and stacking teams to ensure productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of both raw and finished products.
  • Follow safe operating procedures for all equipment.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by your supervisor

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:  
  • EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in a food processing facility is preferred but not required, as training will be provided.
  • SKILLS: Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Strong mechanical skills are also required. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is necessary.    
  • ADDITIONAL: Candidates must be able to work hands-on in a fast-paced, team-oriented food processing environment. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is a must. Candidates should also possess good decision-making skills. Regular and acceptable attendance is required, along with the ability to follow directions, collaborate effectively with co-workers, understand and adhere to established work rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Work is conducted in a cool environment, with an average temperature of 34 degrees Fahrenheit. Concentrated chlorine and concealed ammonia are present. Work surfaces and floors may be wet. Employees are required to wear approved shoes and protective equipment. Workers must be able to lift to 25 pounds unassisted for up to one-third of the workday and 6 pounds overhead as needed. The job may involve constant standing on a concrete floor, as well as reaching, bending, stooping, and repetitive hand movements. Please note that moving machinery, including conveyors and forklifts, always operates in the area. Please be aware that our workplace environment may contain or encounter

WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • The position may require working overtime and some weekends.

  • H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent; BS desirable.
