Job description

The Old Globe is hiring part-time seasonal Concessions Hawkers to sell beverages and snacks to audiences on the Globe’s Copley Plaza and within the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre before evening performances and during intermissions of The Globe’s summer productions of William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure and Much Ado About Nothing.

The Concession Hawker is a high-energy, high-reward, physically active and mobile aspect of The Old Globe’s concession operation that also includes Lady Carolyn’s Pub and the Helen Edison Gift Shop. You’ll be right in the mix with our dedicated audiences coming to Globe performances and Balboa Park goers who find respite on the Globe’s Copley Plaza.

This is a fast-paced role where your effort will directly translate into your income through a combination of a competitive hourly wage and tips. The more you hustle and connect with theatre goers the more you can earn. Available shifts are Tuesday through Sunday evenings during performance, and shifts will typically only be three (3) hours or fewer.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Sell beverages and pre-packaged snacks throughout Copley Plaza and within the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.
  • Actively engage with audience members and park goers to promote concession sales.
  • Serve alcoholic beverages responsibly, request identification, and adhere to all company alcohol service policies and procedures.
  • Collect payment from audience members while following credit card policies (no cash payments).
  • Conduct inventory reports at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and guest-friendly concession environment.
  • Work collaboratively with concession, front-of-house, and operations staff during performances and special events

The successful candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

  • Sales drive: A natural inclination towards engaging with people and selling.
  • Availability to work evenings and on the weekends (including availability Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
  • High energy & stamina: The endurance and enthusiasm to work in a physically demanding environment for several hours.
  • Physical Fitness: The ability to comfortably lift and carry 50-75 pounds up and downstairs and navigate a crowded plaza.
  • Customer Service Orientation: The ability to build rapport with customers and provide excellent service.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Concession Hawkers are required to obtain a Food Handlers at the start of their employment if they do not already have it and must maintain a valid card for the duration of their employment.
  • Must be able to pass an applicable background check.

This is a seasonal, part-time position running from mid-June through late August 2026. Shifts are performance-based and are typically three (3) hours or fewer. Compensation is $20.00/hour plus tips.
