What is a Haskell job?

A Haskell job involves developing software using the Haskell programming language, which is known for its strong type system and functional programming paradigm. Haskell developers work on applications ranging from financial systems and blockchain technologies to compiler development and distributed systems. These roles often require expertise in functional programming concepts, type theory, and performance optimization. Many Haskell jobs are found in research-driven industries, fintech, and startups leveraging functional programming for reliability and maintainability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Haskell position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Haskell Developer, you need advanced proficiency in functional programming, Haskell language expertise, and a solid background in computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, build tools such as Stack or Cabal, and knowledge of software development best practices are commonly expected. Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and the ability to work independently or within a distributed team help set candidates apart. These skills ensure high-quality, reliable, and efficient code development in complex, collaborative software projects.

What kind of projects and team environments do Haskell Developers typically work in?

Haskell Developers often contribute to a wide range of software projects, including fintech applications, data processing pipelines, and large-scale distributed systems. Teams can vary in size, but Haskell developers frequently work in small, highly skilled groups where collaboration and code review are important parts of the workflow. Many companies hiring for Haskell roles offer flexible, remote-friendly environments and encourage participation in open-source communities. Collaborating closely with product managers, QA engineers, and other developers is common to ensure robust and maintainable solutions. This collaborative setting fosters both individual growth and collective technical excellence.

Haskell is a leader in transportation design - providing services in planning, environmental services, roadway and bridge design. Our civil and structural engineers, environmental specialists, and support professionals provide innovative and quality transportation solutions for our state, turnpike, municipal and private clients.

We have transportation design teams in Jacksonville, FL; Oklahoma City, OK; and Tulsa, OK. Now, we are looking to expand our services by establishing a transportation practice in Missouri. Haskell's St. Louis office was founded in 1982 to support full-service architectural, engineering, and design-build activities. This may be a new venture but our roots run deep.

What is in it for you?

  • Lead all MoDOT projects for Haskell
  • Gain more exposure to business development
  • Key role in growing and mentoring the team
  • Work alongside a director with 30+ years of MoDOT experience

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing design budget, fees, and scopes with input from the project design team
  • Managing the design and production of transportation plans while assuring conformance to design document standards and criteria
  • Construction support
  • Projecting financial performance
  • Coordinating subconsultants
  • Client management and primary client interface
  • Developing potential future work opportunities

To thrive in this role you will need:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 10+ years of transportation design experience
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • Experience with geometric design, drainage design, construction sequencing and utility relocation coordination
  • Transportation design project management experience
  • Communications, negotiations, management, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge and experience in design project management including, but not limited to, budgeting, scheduling, proposal writing, staffing, coordination, forecasting, conflict resolution, and change management

At Haskell, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, professional development opportunities, and more. Join us and be part of a team where your contributions make a difference.
