Job description

Salary: $26-$28 per hour DOE

Note: Applicants must reside in Minnesota

Northland Business Systems is looking for a Hardware Technician in/around Burnsville, MN. This position will be working primarily in logging and dictation will be a secondary responsibility. The Hardware Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of computer hardware, peripherals, and network equipment. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and the ability to provide excellent support to end-users. This position includes travel to on-site as well as occasional out-of-state travel.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, peripherals, and related devices.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and network issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Repair or replace faulty components such as hard drives, RAM, motherboards, and power supplies.
  • Perform system upgrades, including memory and storage expansions.
  • Set up and test new equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Maintain and update inventory of hardware components and spare parts.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to support software installations and system updates.
  • Ensure security measures are in place for hardware components, including data protection and proper disposal of outdated equipment.
  • Document all repairs, installations, and troubleshooting processes for reference.
  • Create and resolve tickets for each service request through BMS ticketing system
  • Meet with IT Supervisor to receive coaching and support to continually improve and grow
  • Using creativity and innovation to produce better functioning systems and products to move the company forward
  • Document all pertinent end user identification information, including name, department, contact information, and nature of problem or issue to IT
  • Learn new products
  • Travel to customer sites as needed which may include overnight stays and travel via company vehicle


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven experience as a Hardware Technician or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, and network devices
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and testing equipment
  • Ability to disassemble, repair, and reassemble hardware components
  • Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Ability to create and manage tickets and projects consistently and thoroughly
  • Ability to update and/or provide customer documentation in BMS ticketing system and IT Glue
  • Skilled at providing friendly and quality customer service
  • Knowledgeable in and be skilled at using Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and any other programs that meet company needs
  • Willingness to be a self-starter by taking on a variety of tasks to best serve the client and their project work
  • Ability to possess strong communication skills internally and with the customer to meet their service needs
  • Ability to have a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to contribute and collaborate well on a team
  • Ability to identify, investigate, and troubleshoot problems to find solutions
  • Ability to adapt to provided tools including IT Glue, Log Me In, Kaseya, etc
  • Knowledgeable about conflict resolution techniques and willingness to use them
