Hardware Networking Companies information

What are hardware networking companies?

Hardware networking companies are businesses that specialize in providing physical devices and infrastructure used to connect computers and other devices within a network. These companies design, manufacture, and sell products such as routers, switches, servers, network cables, and wireless access points. They may also offer services like installation, maintenance, and technical support to ensure seamless network connectivity for organizations and individuals. Prominent examples include Cisco, Juniper Networks, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a hardware networking role?

To thrive in a hardware networking role, you need a solid understanding of computer networks, hardware installation, troubleshooting, and typically a degree in computer science or information technology. Familiarity with networking tools, Cisco or CompTIA certifications, and experience with network operating systems are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and teamwork skills help professionals excel in this field. These skills are crucial to ensure reliable network performance, quick issue resolution, and smooth collaboration within IT environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in hardware networking companies?

Professionals in hardware networking companies often encounter challenges such as keeping up with rapid technological advancements, troubleshooting complex network issues, and ensuring compatibility across diverse hardware and software systems. They may also need to coordinate with cross-functional teams including software engineers, support staff, and clients to deliver seamless solutions. Adapting to evolving security threats and maintaining robust network infrastructure are ongoing tasks that require continuous learning and collaboration.

What is the difference between Hardware Networking Companies vs Network Technicians?

Job description

VoltiE Group is building the next generation of EV charging infrastructure.

Unlike companies focused on a single layer of the technology stack, we develop our charging hardware, embedded firmware, backend software, and cloud services in-house. We are also expanding into installation, field service, and maintenance, giving our team the opportunity to support our products throughout their full lifecycle.

Our work also extends to established charging platforms serving a large installed base of tens of thousands of chargers. We deliver meaningful new capabilities, improve reliability, and solve real-world technical challenges across hardware, software, connectivity, and field operations.

We are looking for a hands-on Technical Support Specialist (L3) who enjoys solving difficult technical problems and wants to play a direct role in improving the reliability and performance of EV charging systems.

As a Technical Support Specialist (L3), you will take ownership of complex technical escalations involving EV chargers and their supporting systems. You will investigate issues across hardware, networking, embedded systems, software, and cloud-connected services using diagnostic tools, logs, serial consoles, networking utilities, service interfaces, engineering documentation, and structured troubleshooting processes. You will work closely with hardware, firmware, software, cloud, field service, installation, and operations teams to identify root causes, validate solutions, and help prevent recurring issues. This is a highly hands-on role for someone who is technically curious, persistent, and comfortable getting into the details of a problem. Programming experience is not required. What matters most is strong troubleshooting ability, technical curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to methodically work through unfamiliar systems.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in technical support, systems support, field engineering, network operations, electronics, embedded systems, industrial equipment, EV charging, telecommunications, or a related technical troubleshooting environment.

Experience working with complex technical systems where issues may span hardware, networking, software, connectivity, and cloud services.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience, technical certifications, military training, or demonstrated hands-on expertise may be considered in place of a degree.

Specialized Skills (Required):

  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with a structured approach to identifying and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Ability to read, follow, and improve technical documentation, engineering runbooks, service procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly document technical findings, troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and recurring issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, field service, installation, operations, and customer-facing teams.
  • Ability to independently own escalated technical issues from investigation through resolution and validation.
  • Strong attention to detail, persistence, curiosity, and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
  • Ability to work on-site with physical equipment and participate in hands-on testing and troubleshooting.

Specialized Skills (Desired):

  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure, EVSE, OCPP, or charger management systems.
  • Experience with embedded systems, Linux-based devices, firmware updates, UART/serial consoles, or device-level diagnostics.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and components, including voltage, current, power, grounding, relays, contactor, sensors, and circuit protection.
  • Experience troubleshooting IoT, connected devices, industrial equipment, telecommunications equipment, or other distributed hardware systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud-connected products, APIs, backend services, device-management platforms, or fleet-management systems.
  • Experience with network/protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark or similar utilities.

This is a highly hands-on role for someone who is technically curious, persistent, and comfortable getting into the details of a problem.

Programming experience is not required. What matters most is strong troubleshooting ability, technical curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to methodically work through unfamiliar systems.
