Job description

Who We Are:

Based in New Jersey and established in 2010, Asset Based Lending, LLC (“ABL”) is one of the nation’s leading Hard Money Lenders. We provide fast bridge financing to real estate investors for the purchase, renovation, or new construction of single family, multi-family and mixed-use properties as well as DSCR rental loans for long term investors. We have closed thousands of loans since we began lending fourteen years ago, producing nearly $3B in originations. ABL was acquired by a private equity firm in 2021, and with a renewed focus on growth, we’ve set our sights on consistent evolution and cementing our place as the premier private lender in the country.

Our Mission is Simple:

  • Make Good Loans
  • Provide Exceptional Service, Every Time
  • Protect The Firm
  • Build The Future

ABL is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Underwriter with a background in risk analysis for residential and commercial real estate lending to join our rapidly growing Underwriting team. This role is integral to collaborating with our senior leadership to enhance internal processes, evaluate commercial loan inquiries, and strategically manage portfolio risk.

As we continue to expand, we need a candidate with a strong underwriting background who is enthusiastic about navigating the complexities of residential and commercial lending. If you have a track record of success in underwriting and are eager to contribute to a high-growth environment, we encourage you to apply and help drive ABL’s success!

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for residential and commercial loans.
  • Collaborate with Loan Officers to evaluate and discuss the feasibility of new lending opportunities.
  • Lead in-depth Borrower underwriting interviews to gather critical financial and business information.
  • Review and analyze construction budgets for fix and flip and ground up construction projects.
  • Maintain and update detailed loan information and underwriting notes in our Lending Operating System (LOS)
  • Structure loans in accordance with ABL’s underwriting guidelines and risk management strategies.
  • Provide insightful recommendations to the credit committee regarding loan approvals or rejections.
  • Manage a robust pipeline of loans, ensuring efficient processing through various stages of underwriting.
  • Review and assess appraisal reports, credit histories, and other key loan documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy before finalizing loan closings.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure smooth and efficient loan closing processes.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in residential or commercial underwriting, real estate finance, or a related commercial lending field.
  • Demonstrated success working within cross-functional teams in a high-paced commercial lending environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a focus on real estate clients and transactions.
  • Excellent analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail in assessing commercial risk.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence in professional phone interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant underwriting tools and software.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus.
  • U.S. citizenship or green card is required.
  • High School Diploma is required.
