Position Description
The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has immediate full-time educator positions available at the Dolan DNA Learning Center (DNALC) in Cold Spring Harbor. The selected candidates will join a small, influential group recognized worldwide as a leader in creating and disseminating new methods in genetics education, including the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, and data science. Over 700,000 students have conducted experiments with DNALC staff-join our team as we aim to reach a million and more!
Position Responsibilities
Provide hands-on instruction to precollege students visiting the DNALC for field trips, summer camps, and extended research projects.
Travel to deliver programs at regional schools and other DNALC locations in the tri state area.
Teach week-long educator workshops; both domestic and international.
Develop and improve teaching modules, including new experiments for middle and high school students.
Assist with laboratory preparation and testing.
Flexible scheduling will require some weekend work.
Position Requirements
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in science - biology, molecular biology, or genetics preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
โ€ข Strong science background required with an interest and/or experience in teaching
OTHER:
โ€ข NYS teaching certification a plus, but not required.
โ€ข Postdoctoral scientists who would like to pursue teaching careers are also encouraged to apply-especially those with experience in personal genomics, DNA barcoding, metabarcoding, or bioinformatics.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB:
โ€ข Strong content knowledge โ€ข Excellent verbal and written communications skills โ€ข Strong organizational skills โ€ข Ability to work independently, and as part of a team โ€ข Must be motivated and a self-starter โ€ข Availability to travel (domestic and international)
