Instructional Paraeducator - Seaford High School - TEMPORARY for the 2026-2027 School YearÂ
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and behavioral objectives.
Essential Job Functions
- Â Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
- Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
- Assists professional staff in the administration of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
- Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
- Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
- Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
- Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
- Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
- Assists teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
- Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc.
- Constructs, copies, and distributed educational materials as needed
- Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
Additional Duties:
- Maintain learner/classroom confidentially in school, at home, and in the community
- Monitor student progress
- Provide academic assistance to small groups, or individual learners
- Discipline learners in a consistent, firm, positive manner at a feeling level within the structure
- Demonstrate an encouraging attitude
- Treat learners, staff and parents with respect and dignity
- Demonstrate an initiative to try new and unique ways of performing assigned tasks and new projects
- Be a role model by being courteous, cooperative, respectful, open, neat, prompt, and encouraging
- Provide a support system that allows learners to develop independence
- Assist the teacher in the development of appropriate social and emotional growth of their learners continually seeking out resources to develop competencies in providing services to the learners and the school community
- Participate in staff meetings as requested
- Attend in-service training as assigned
- Strive to continually improve skills
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Paraeducator Certification
NOTE:Â A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required for all employees of the Seaford School District.Â
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:Â Interested and qualified candidates should complete an online application.Â
NOTE:Â Currently employed staff members interested and certified/licensed in this position will be given first consideration and should remit a staff transfer request on the Seaford School District website www.seafordbluejays.org no later than the application closing date referenced above.Â
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: All new state employees will be required to participate in the State of Delaware's Direct Deposit system. With direct deposit, wage and salary payments are deposited in the employee's bank account via electronic funds transfer.
All final candidates for employment must have a satisfactory criminal background check before being placed on contract/payroll as per State of Delaware regulations. Candidates must call the Delaware State Police at (800) 464-4357 to make an appointment. The cost of the criminal background check is $65 (expense borne by the prospective employee). Final candidates must also receive a satisfactory child protection registry check.The cost of the CPR check is $14 (expense borne by the prospective employee).
Final candidates must also produce documentation of Mantoux skin test results for entrance to school system.
The State of Delaware has initiated a lag pay policy which means that new employees will receive the first paycheck at the end of the second pay period of work.Â
