Job description

We’re partnering with an organization that relies on a mission-critical HP NonStop environment to support high-volume financial transaction processing. This platform has been in production for many years and remains a core part of daily business operations while a long-term modernization initiative is underway. We’re seeking an experienced HP NonStop professional who enjoys both production support and application development. This individual will help ensure the reliability of critical business processes while contributing technical expertise to a gradual migration toward a modern application architecture.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll troubleshoot production issues, maintain existing applications, document operational knowledge, and collaborate with teams responsible for future-state platform development.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex production problems, takes ownership of critical systems, and appreciates the challenge of supporting a legacy platform while helping prepare it for the future. This role offers the opportunity to make an immediate operational impact while contributing to a long-term modernization effort.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and monitor daily production processing within the HP NonStop environment, ensuring critical workloads complete successfully.
  • Maintain and enhance existing COBOL applications and Pathway services that support transaction processing and reporting.
  • Investigate production issues, perform root cause analysis, and participate in an on-call rotation for operational support.
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, technical procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
  • Work alongside modernization teams to analyze existing workflows, validate interfaces, and support integration between legacy and modern applications.
  • Assist with production deployments, testing, and continuous improvements to system reliability and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting HP NonStop (Guardian) applications in a production environment.
  • Strong COBOL development experience on HP NonStop.
  • Experience with Pathway, including server classes, requestors, and configuration.
  • Working knowledge of Enscribe files (indexed and sequential).
  • Familiarity with TMF transaction processing and batch recovery techniques.
  • Experience creating or maintaining TACL scripts and automated job streams.
  • Background supporting high-volume transaction or financial processing systems.
  • Experience responding to production incidents and participating in an on-call support rotation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with .NET, C#, APIs, or REST-based integrations.
  • Exposure to application modernization or legacy system migration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with file transfer technologies, EDI processes, or enterprise system integrations.
  • Understanding of security and compliance requirements common within regulated environments.
  • Experience using modern development or AI-assisted coding tools to improve productivity.
