Job description

Description The City of Roanoke is seeking a Recreation Assistant - Gym Supervisor to perform responsible work overseeing the gymnasium during public hours, programs, and facility rentals at the Eureka Recreation Center. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for participants of all ages engaging in recreational activities. Responsibilities include supervising open gym activities, monitoring organized programs and rentals, enforcing facility rules and safety guidelines, and providing excellent customer service to patrons.

The position requires the ability to work effectively with youth, adults, and community groups, while promoting positive interactions and resolving conflicts as needed. The Gym Supervisor will coordinate with facility staff to ensure proper setup and breakdown for programs and rentals and may assist with basic administrative tasks such as collecting forms and completing assignments on a computer. Candidates should have a strong interest in community recreation and facility operations, along with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Knowledge of recreational activities such as sports, fitness, and group programming is preferred. Must demonstrate reliability, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a supervisory setting. Minimum requirements include any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and some experience working in recreation, athletics, or a related field.

CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred or may be required upon hire. A valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred. Hours will vary based on facility operations and rental schedules and will include evenings and weekends.
