The Role
The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Climbing Gym Attendant to join our Outdoor Sports Team. The MAC Climbing Gym, located within a premier 600,000 sq. ft. athletic club, is more than just a job-it's a gateway to a dynamic career in the outdoor industry. As a Climbing Gym Attendant, you'll work alongside the Climbing Gym Supervisor, supporting youth programs, daily operations, and member experiences in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This position requires flexibility, with priority given to candidates who can work evenings and weekends.

What You'll Do
  • Deliver exceptional member engagement by addressing inquiries, initiating welcoming conversations, and supporting a positive gym experience.
  • Provide instruction and coaching through private lessons, specialty classes, and youth programs, ensuring a safe and structured environment.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness via regular walkthroughs, equipment checks, and adherence to risk management protocols.
  • Manage climbing gear according to departmental standards.
  • Collaborate with staff on best practices and stay informed on industry trends.
  • Participate in meetings, events, and additional tasks as directed by supervisors.

What You'll Bring
  • Proficiency in top rope belaying with an Assisted Braking Device (ABD), or strong willingness to learn.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children.
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience (or equivalent industry experience).
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Commitment to completing SafeSport certification upon hire.
  • Strong multitasking, time management, and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience in a climbing gym; proficiency in belaying with a Grigri.
  • 2+ years of personal climbing experience.
  • Broader experience in outdoor recreation disciplines.
