Guest Service Assistant

The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team.

The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for "at-risk" youth.

We are currently seeking full-time Guest Service Assistant(s) to monitor residents at our homeless shelter at the Center for Men in Miami, FL.

Shift(s) available: 7:30AM - 4:00PM 1:00PM - 9:30PM 2:30PM - 11:00PM 11:00PM - 7:30AM Including weekends and holidays as needed

Job Summary The Guest Service Assistant (GSA) monitors and oversees residential clients at our Centers. Duties include assisting with new resident orientation; providing general oversight of residents in the absence of management; ensuring that residents perform assigned chores; handling emergencies according to policies and procedures; providing operational support for events such as graduations and luncheons; and, coordinating transportation and/or laundry services for residents.

Duties

  • Oversees front desk, laundry room, Guest Service CSAs and ensures clients and visitors of the Center are treated with respect and dignity
  • Routinely checks for hazardous substances and unsafe conditions in the facility and corrects immediately when possible or reports it to Supervisor or Director if unable to remedy
  • Reports maintenance problems to Supervisor
  • Helps maintain a safe, clean and secure environment for residents, employees, volunteers and visitors
  • Handles emergencies according to policies and procedures and notifies management with timely incident reports
  • Responds to emails and phone calls in a timely manner, and keeps other staff informed
  • Monitors residents throughout the Center, and ensures that all residents are treated with dignity and respect
  • Assists with orientation for new residents and volunteers
  • Listens to residents, makes decisions based on available facts using wisdom, compassion and according to company policy
  • Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
  • Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED, some college level coursework in social work or knowledge of addictions and relapse prevention highly preferred
  • Must have one (1) year work experience in social services or security-related work
  • Must be of good moral character with knowledge of homelessness and addiction issues, and have the ability to lead clients by example
  • Must have good communication, computer and organizational skills with knowledge of basic facility maintenance and security
  • Must be able to multi-task and make sound decisions in a fair and compassionate manner
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and all levels of residents, employees, volunteers and guests
  • Must be able to understand, speak, read and write English and carry out oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be very mobile as sitting, walking, standing, stooping, bending and reaching are required to perform essential job duties
  • Must have the ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
  • Must be able to move around unassisted as needed to perform essential job duties
