AspectGt Suite SimulationCircuit Simulation Engineer
Required CredentialsEngineering degree, experience with simulation toolsEngineering degree, specialized in circuit design and simulation
Work EnvironmentElectronics and automotive industries, R&D labsElectronics, semiconductor, and consumer electronics industries
Employer & Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, electronics companiesElectronics design firms, semiconductor companies

Both roles involve simulation skills, but Gt Suite Simulation focuses on vehicle and automotive systems, while Circuit Simulation Engineers specialize in electronic circuit design and analysis. The choice depends on industry focus and specific technical expertise.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with GT-SUITE simulation software, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals using GT-SUITE simulation software often encounter challenges such as managing complex multi-physics models, ensuring model validation against real-world data, and efficiently troubleshooting simulation errors. To address these, it's important to build a strong foundational understanding of the software through training and documentation, collaborate closely with test and design engineers for accurate input data, and actively participate in user forums or seek support from the GT-SUITE community. Regularly updating software knowledge and best practices can also help streamline simulation workflows and improve result accuracy.

What is GT Suite simulation?

GT Suite simulation refers to the use of GT-SUITE software, a leading multi-physics simulation platform developed by Gamma Technologies. It is widely used in the automotive, aerospace, and industrial sectors to model and simulate systems such as engines, thermal management, acoustics, and fluid flow. GT-SUITE allows engineers to perform both 1D and 3D simulations, enabling detailed analysis and optimization of complex systems before physical prototypes are built. This helps companies reduce development costs, improve performance, and accelerate product innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GT-SUITE Simulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GT-SUITE Simulation Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or automotive engineering, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. Proficiency in using GT-SUITE software for modeling, simulation, and analysis—often supported by relevant certifications or training—is typically required. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams are vital soft skills in this role. These skills are important to ensure accurate simulations, optimize system performance, and support effective engineering decision-making.

Description:

DUTIES: FEV North America, Inc. seeks a Team Leader based out of our office at 4554 Glenmeade Lane, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Note, this position does not require travel.

Lead projects in development of thermal management systems for compression ignition engines, spark-ignited engines, vehicle cabin HVAC, electrified powertrain components (battery, motor, powerelectronics), and fuel cell systems for on-road and off-road applications. Lead the project team on model-based development activities such as system simulation, control strategy development, controls validation, and virtual calibration of thermal management systems. Manage projects, mentor lesser experienced engineers, and provide general technical direction to the project team. Provide customer communication, which includes presenting analysis of results, data correlation, interpretation of technical data, communication of program status, as well as, guiding technical discussions regarding project direction. Support proposal preparation efforts including, writing, resource planning, and reviewing prior to submission to the customer. Contribute to research and studies that lead to industry publications and patent applications.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related and 36 months of experience in the job offered or related position in engine, hybrid, and fuel cell powertrain development.

Required experience must include:

- Experience with model-based development of thermal management systems for engines, hybrid powertrains, and fuel cell powertrains, which includes thermal simulation (engine, motor, power electronics, battery, fuel cell, and cabin HVAC), control strategy development, control strategy validation in Model in the Loop (MiL) environment, and virtual calibration;

- Experience with simulation capabilities and tools including GT-SUITE (engine cooling loop, engine lubrication loop, fuel cell heating / cooling loop, electrified powertrain heating / cooling loop, cabin HVAC), AMESim (propulsion system, thermal system) and Matlab / Simulink (plant modeling, MiL modeling and virtual calibration);

- Experience with thermal system architecture optimization and advanced energy management.
