What is a GSI?

GSIs, or Graduate Student Instructors, are graduate students who teach courses or lead discussion or lab sections at universities, most commonly at institutions like the University of California. Serving as a GSI provides valuable teaching experience for graduate students while helping to support undergraduate education. GSIs typically receive training and are expected to adhere to university teaching standards.

To thrive as a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI), you generally need subject matter expertise, strong academic standing, and enrollment in a graduate program.
