What is a growth manager?

A Growth Manager is a professional responsible for driving business growth by developing and executing strategies to acquire, engage, and retain customers. They often use data-driven approaches to identify new market opportunities, optimize marketing campaigns, and improve product offerings. Growth Managers collaborate with teams across marketing, product, and sales to implement initiatives that boost user acquisition and revenue. Their role is crucial in scaling businesses efficiently, especially in fast-paced industries like tech and startups.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a growth manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Growth Manager, you need strong analytical abilities, marketing expertise, and experience in driving customer acquisition and retention, often backed by a degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, CRM systems, A/B testing platforms, and marketing automation software is typically required. Excellent communication, creativity, and cross-functional collaboration skills help Growth Managers stand out in strategizing and executing growth initiatives. These competencies are essential for identifying opportunities, optimizing processes, and delivering measurable business growth in a competitive market.

How does a growth manager typically collaborate with marketing, product, and sales teams to drive company growth?

A Growth Manager acts as a bridge between marketing, product, and sales teams by identifying growth opportunities and aligning cross-functional strategies. They frequently coordinate with marketing to craft campaigns, work with product teams to improve user experience based on data-driven insights, and partner with sales to optimize lead generation and conversion processes. This collaboration ensures that all teams are working towards unified company growth goals, often leading to faster iteration and more innovative solutions.

Job description

At Compass, our mission is to help everyone find their place in the world. Founded in 2012, we're revolutionizing the real estate industry with our end-to-end platform that empowers residential real estate agents to deliver exceptional service to seller and buyer clients.
As a Strategic Growth Manager you will be at the center of our growth strategy, directly responsible for driving net-new revenue across our company-owned brokerages, which may include Coldwell Banker, Sotheby's International Realty, Corcoran, and Compass. You will partner with top-producing real estate agents-true CEOs of their own businesses-and influence them to grow their business with us.
In this role, you will work alongside an incredibly high-performing and driven team, with colleagues coming from diverse and rigorous backgrounds including investment banking, management consulting, law, and enterprise sales. You'll operate in a uniquely high-impact environment-our Strategic Growth Managers (SGMs) are conservatively generating 15x more revenue per head than top global tech firms, driven by the strength of our market, talent, and business momentum.
What You'll Do
- Drive strategic growth by identifying, engaging, and structuring deals with top-performing real estate agents and teams, expanding our presence within your market.
-Position our value proposition including technology, marketing, culture, and growth platform.
-Build and manage a strong pipeline with a consultative and relationship-driven process.
-Develop deep market expertise and maintain a strong local presence.
-Collaborate with leadership, agents, and cross-functional teams.
What This Role Offers
-Work directly with decision-makers for faster, high-impact conversations.
-Engage in a highly consultative, human sales process requiring high IQ and EQ.
-Build trusted relationships with high-performing professionals.
-Operate with high autonomy and ownership over your success.
How You'll Be Measured
This is a quota carrying role measured by revenue attainment. Deal sizes range from $75K to $5M+ with an average 30-day sales cycle. Revenue is measured by agent, team and brokerage production volume.
Location
Based in our Marietta office, this onsite, market-facing role will have you engaging clients in the field while collaborating in person with local teams and agents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Proven success in a quota-carrying role
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-starter with strong judgment
- Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Track record of high performance
Compensation
The base pay range for this position is $100,000-$110,000 annually, with a target bonus of $30,000-$60,000 and uncapped bonus potential. We provide a full range of benefits and compensation may include equity. Base pay is based on market location.
Perks that You Need to Know About:
Participation in our incentive programs (which may include eligible cash, equity, or commissions). Plus paid vacation, holidays, sick time, parental leave, and recharge leave; medical, tele-health, dental and vision benefits; 401(k) plan; flexible spending accounts (FSAs); commuter program; life and disability insurance; Maven (a support system for new parents); Carrot (fertility benefits); UrbanSitter (caregiver referral network); Employee Assistance Program; and pet insurance.
Do your best work, be your authentic self.
At Compass, we believe that everyone deserves to find their place in the world - a place where they feel like they belong, where they can be their authentic selves, where they can thrive. Our collaborative, energetic culture is grounded in our Compass Entrepreneurship Principles and our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, growth and mobility. As an equal opportunity employer, we offer competitive compensation packages, robust benefits and professional growth opportunities aimed at helping to improve our employees' lives and careers.
