POSITION SUMMARY
Spicer Group seeks a highly talented Architect III to lead and grow its Development amp; Buildings Service Line across all offices, serving as a senior project architect/project manager and subject matter expert who supports senior architects and practice area lead in business development and workload planning. The role guides projects from programming through construction, develops designs and construction documents, and prepares drawings, specifications, reports, and milestone reviews while aligning designs to client budgets. It also manages project budgets, invoicing, and performance metrics, coordinates with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, ensures code and standard compliance with sustainable design principles, and conducts feasibility and environmental tasks as needed, including site visits to monitor progress and quality. Additionally, the Architect III builds client relationships, supports proposals and promotions, and mentors junior staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support senior architect and practice lead with the management and development of Spicer Group’s Development and Buildings Business Unit
  • Shall serve as subject matter expert (SME) and co-developer with senior staff for the development and growth of Spicer Group’s architectural department
  • Collaborate with senior architect and practice lead to develop and achieve AMEP group workload and utilization metrics
  • Support senior architect to delegate work to architectural and engineering technical staff
  • Capable of leading and managing a parallel operating architectural and engineering production structure
  • Oversee AMEP group project deliverables ensuring high-quality execution and adherence to deadlines and budgets
  • Initiate new projects, drafts proposals, collaborates with existing and prospective clients, and supervise projects from the programming phase through construction project completion
  • Serves as architectural project manager and manages clients, projects, and staff
  • Communicate with clients to understand their needs and preferences, and present design proposals for approval
  • Develop client relationships and new project leads and participates in company promotional activities
  • Establish and manage project budgets, reviews invoices, and monitor project metrics
  • Conduct design reviews at project milestones. Meets with key stakeholders during those reviews to gather their input
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements and timelines are met
  • Provide specialized technical assistance in connection with particular building types, components, materials, elements, or building codes
  • Develop architectural designs from conceptual stages through to detailed construction documents
  • Prepare and manage architectural documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports
  • Help senior staff to oversee and delegate work to architectural and engineering staff
  • Ability to mentor junior staff
  • Adheres to project schedules and provides high-level design oversight and production
  • Prepare Preliminary Opinion of Cost (POC) documents throughout the design process for client review and adjust designs to fit the client’s budget as needed
  • Develop construction specifications and contract documents for bidding
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes, regulations, and standards
  • Integrate sustainable design principles into architectural projects to promote energy efficiency and environmental responsibility
  • Produce feasibility and/or environmental impact studies, assist in site selection by reviewing ordinances, evaluating environmental impact, and where applicable, social impact
  • Conduct site visits to monitor the progress of construction and ensure the quality of workmanship and materials
Physical presence is an essential function of this job. Occasional travel and attendance at evening meetings may be required. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed Bachelor degree or Master degree in architecture
  • Current professional architectural licensure in Michigan; Note that other state reciprocity may be requested
  • Fully capable of efficient Code and guideline analysis (NFPA, MBC, MRCEB in conjunction with MMC, MPC, AND NEC) and correct implementation of Codes for architectural production
  • Skilled in architectural design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp)
  • Jointly leads the development and implementation of Revit
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe creative suite, Lumion, and Blue Beam Revue
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and provide creative solutions to complex design challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of proven architectural project manager experience within an architectural firm environment
  • NCARB certificate a plus
  • Experience with sustainable design and LEED accreditation preferred
  • Experience in a specific architectural niche (e.g., residential, commercial, healthcare) preferred
  • Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) technology preferred
