What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a group financial controller, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Group Financial Controller, you need advanced accounting expertise, strong analytical skills, and a professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or CPA. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, financial consolidation software, and regulatory compliance tools is typically required. Leadership, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for managing teams and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial management across complex organizational structures.

What is a group financial controller?

Group Financial Controllers are senior finance professionals responsible for overseeing the financial operations and reporting of a group of companies or subsidiaries within a larger organization. They ensure accurate consolidated financial statements, compliance with accounting standards, and effective internal controls across all entities within the group. Group Financial Controllers also play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and supporting strategic financial decision-making at the corporate level.

What are the main challenges a group financial controller faces when consolidating financial statements across multiple subsidiaries?

A Group Financial Controller often encounters complexities when consolidating financial statements from various subsidiaries, especially if they operate in different countries or use different accounting systems. Challenges include ensuring consistent accounting policies, managing currency translations, and meeting tight reporting deadlines. Effective communication and coordination with local finance teams are crucial to identify discrepancies and address compliance issues promptly. Leveraging robust consolidation software and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of international financial reporting standards can help streamline the process.

Job description

Keeping 400+ consultants and five countries running smoothly starts with rock-solid numbers - sounds like your kind of challenge? Then keep reading!

TheValueChain is a fast-growing SAP Gold partner with a team of over 400 consultants across five countries. We specialise in innovative SAP solutions โ€“ ERP, CX, HxM, Business Intelligence, BTP - so our customers stay ahead in a constantly shifting digital landscape. For our head office in Kontich, weโ€™re looking for a Group Financial Controller to join our Shared Service team. Accelerate. Adapt. Act.

At TheValueChain, grinta runs through everything we do - Finance included. You bring drive, precision, and a business-partner mindset, and you turn numbers into decisions that move the group forward. Down to earth, no-nonsense - thatโ€™s how we like our reporting, and our people.

What is your challenge?

The TheValueChain Shared Service team takes work off the entrepreneursโ€™ plate across the group - financial, strategic and operational support - so our companies can focus 100% on what matters: their people, their customers, and their solutions.

As Group Financial Controller, you own a reliable and complete financial administration, and you act as a true business partner - the link between the figures and the business.

Your responsibilities
  • You safeguard the quality and timeliness of the bookkeeping and reporting across the entire group.
  • You are the bridge between the entrepreneurs of the group and the Finance team.
  • You coordinate the budget and forecast process.
  • You prepare the consolidated reporting.
  • You continuously hunt for improvements in processes, data, tooling and reporting.
  • You support ad-hoc analyses and projects wherever the group needs a sharp financial eye.
  • You are a sounding board for your fellow accountants.
Who weโ€™re looking for

Getting excited? Chances are youโ€™re going to be a great fit. A few pointers that matter to us:

  • You have at least 2 years' experience as a controller.
  • Youโ€™re critical, but you tackle challenges pragmatically and with a problem-solving mindset.
  • You work thoroughly, accurately and in a structured way.
  • Youโ€™re resilient under pressure and comfortable with deadlines.
  • You communicate proactively with the business - strong analytically, and never afraid to speak up.
  • You find your way in todayโ€™s digital finance tooling; within our group we work with SAP ByDesign, Power BI and BrightAnalytics, among others.
  • You are innovation-driven: spot something that can be done more efficiently? You put a proposal on the table - we genuinely listen, your input matters.
  • You express yourself smoothly with customers and colleagues in Dutch and English. French too? A great plus!
  • Above all, you want to be part of a close-knit team.
What we offer you
  • A serious challenge in a cutting-edge, innovative environment where people happily go the extra mile.
  • A competitive salary with a premium company car.
  • A full package of fringe benefits: hospitalisation and group insurance, meal and eco vouchers, and a group bonus.
    Hybrid working.
  • The chance to meaningfully contribute to the further growth of TheValueChain - and to grow right alongside it.

And every day, we actively bring our values to life:

  • One Chain, One Team: people come first - we work as one team, across units and disciplines.
  • Driven by Passion, Fuelled by Fun: we give 120%, but no effort without a bit of fun.
  • Your Journey, Your Ownership: you steer your own development, and we help you move forward.
  • Smart Minds, Can-Do Attitude: strong on substance, direct in approach, no-nonsense and down to earth.
  • Shaping the Future, Starting Now: we innovate more and faster than our competitors, and we start today.
Interested?

Ready to bring your grinta to our Finance team and help take the whole group to the next level? We canโ€™t wait to talk to you!

Come accelerate, adapt, and act with us!
