Group Benefits Associate Account Manager

Position Summary:

The Group Benefits Associate Account Manager provides exceptional service and support to employee benefits clients, with a primary focus on managing and coordinating renewals for small group accounts. This role serves as a key liaison between clients, carriers, producers, and internal teams to ensure benefit programs meet client needs while supporting retention and growth objectives. The Associate Account Manager assists with renewal strategy, marketing, carrier negotiations, open enrollment coordination, and ongoing service activities. This position is designed to develop the skills and expertise necessary to independently manage renewals and client relationships while contributing to overall operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Client & Renewal Management

  • Manage the renewal process for assigned small group employee benefits clients.
  • Obtain, analyze, and negotiate renewal terms and new business quotes with carriers.
  • Assist in the preparation of renewal proposals, presentations, and client-facing materials.
  • Communicate renewal recommendations and decisions to carriers and clients.
  • Collaborate with clients, carriers, and producers to identify and address gaps in coverage.
  • Coordinate open enrollment materials and employee communications.
  • Ensure all renewal and new business documentation is completed accurately and submitted within required timelines.
  • Support implementation activities and provide clean, complete documentation to carriers to ensure smooth onboarding and transitions.

Client Service & Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, carrier representatives, producers, and internal team members.
  • Provide responsive day-to-day service and support for client inquiries and requests.
  • Proactively communicate with clients regarding policy changes, renewals, and benefit program updates.
  • Help maintain client satisfaction and retention, with a goal of achieving retention rates above 95%.
  • Participate in client meetings, renewal discussions, and service reviews as appropriate.

Insurance Knowledge & Business Development

  • Apply knowledge of employee benefits products, coverages, carrier offerings, and market trends to support client recommendations.
  • Assist in developing tailored solutions for fully insured and level-funded benefit programs.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and recommend additional coverage solutions when appropriate.
  • Stay current on carrier products, industry trends, and regulatory developments impacting employee benefits.

Operational Excellence

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Applied Epic.
  • Manage workflows efficiently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and service.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of client activities, communications, and policy transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, service standards, and documentation requirements.
  • Monitor deadlines and follow through on outstanding items to ensure timely completion of client service activities.

Problem Solving & Decision Making

  • Independently resolve routine client and carrier issues with minimal producer involvement.
  • Analyze client situations and present potential solutions to service, coverage, or carrier challenges.
  • Exercise sound judgment within established guidelines and escalate complex issues when appropriate.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations that improve service delivery and client outcomes.

Team Collaboration

  • Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with producers, account managers, carrier partners, and support staff.
  • Participate in internal meetings, training opportunities, and team initiatives.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and client service.
  • Support colleagues and share knowledge to promote overall team success.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Pennsylvania Life & Health Insurance license required
  • Prior employee benefits account management and customer service experience required
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits products, carrier plans, and insurance concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with an agency management system, preferably Applied Epic, and Employee Navigator
  • Strong communication, customer service, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, as permitted by law
