JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for maintaining athletic fields and facilities, including field preparation, equipment operation, and landscaping. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while ensuring safety and compliance with District standards.
KEY FUNCTIONS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Athletic Fields & Grounds:
1. Operates tractors up to 80hp and related implements, ensuring efficient and safe use of front, mid, and rear-mounted equipment for groundskeeping tasks.
2. Performs regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment, ensuring all machinery is serviced, operational, and ready for use.
3. Conducts general grounds maintenance, including trash collection, emptying of trash cans, and overall upkeep of the athletic facility's grounds to meet District standards.
4. Cleans and maintains parking lots and outdoor trash receptacles, ensuring a well-kept and presentable environment for all visitors.
5. Operates a paint striping machine for marking athletic fields in different sports. Take necessary steps to ensure accuracy and quality of all markings.
6. Executes groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, edging, pruning, watering, and weed control to maintain a well-manicured landscape throughout the facility.
7. Assists with planting and maintaining landscaping, ensuring the aesthetic appeal and health of the grounds as directed by supervisors.
8. Performs routine pressure washing of athletic facilities to ensure proper upkeep of coatings and concrete surfaces.
9. Conducts routine turf field maintenance such as cleaning, grooming, infill management, and inspections for both natural grass and synthetic turf. Performs regular inspections crucial to identify wear, damage, proper irrigation, and safety hazards
10. Monitors and manages drainage systems across campus grounds to prevent water accumulation and maintain safe, functional facilities.
11. Communicate regularly with Athletic Staff and Supports the setup and maintenance of the athletic facilities, ensuring their proper preparation for events and competitions.
12. Ensures athletic facilities are maintained to the highest standard, meeting district expectations for cleanliness, safety, and overall facility appearance.
13. Interfaces with other personnel, as needed, to support additional grounds maintenance and event setup tasks, ensuring efficient and timely operations.
14. Assists in regular inspections of grounds and facilities, identifying and reporting maintenance needs or potential hazards.
15. Supports loading and unloading of materials and equipment, ensuring safe handling and storage.
16. Performs seasonal maintenance tasks, such as leaf blowing, snow removal, and planting seasonal flora.
17. Maintains walkways and sidewalks, ensuring they are clear of debris and safe for use.
18. Performs basic troubleshooting and minor repairs, and reports larger issues to supervisors.
Compliance:
19. Performs all grounds maintenance activities in compliance with department and District protocols, ensuring adherence to applicable standards, procedures, and safety regulations set forth by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other local, state, and federal entities.
20. Demonstrates and maintains up-to-date knowledge of groundskeeping techniques, equipment operation, and safety standards, ensuring compliance with TEA, OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations in the execution of field and facility maintenance tasks.
21. Monitors respective work activity for variances and anomalies.
22. Identifies and timely reports any known or suspected compliance issues to appropriate personnel.
23. Assists with audits and the preparation for audits, whether initiated internally or externally, as assigned.
24. Adheres to all other District wide policies and procedures including, but not limited to, human resources, safety, and emergency protocols.
General:
25. Demonstrates support towards the District's Shared Vision, Mission, and Promise 2 Purpose.
26. Assists department leadership in the compilation of miscellaneous confidential reports.
27. Attends departmental and organizational meetings, as required.
28. Participates in continuing education programs and related activities to maintain proficient understanding and working knowledge relevant to the job function and trade.
29. Displays integrity, responsibility, accountability, teamwork, and ethics.
30. Demonstrates basic proficiency in the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields, operation and upkeep of groundskeeping equipment, basic irrigation tasks, turf management, adherence to safety standards and regulations, event setup, pest and weed control, and minor mechanical tasks within the scope of the role.
31. Performs assigned job duties and responsibilities in accordance with established performance expectations, as well as with District policies, procedures, protocols and standard practices.
32. Demonstrates general basic working knowledge and understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and mobile applications relevant to tracking maintenance tasks, field preparation, and communication within the department.
33. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires frequent and physically demanding activities, including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, and operating various groundskeeping equipment. The role regularly involves moving and carrying equipment and objects weighing up to 50 lbs. The position requires physical stamina, manual dexterity, and precise hand-eye coordination to perform tasks safely and efficiently. Strong hearing and visual acuity are essential for monitoring equipment, assessing field conditions, and maintaining clear communication over varying distances. The working environment primarily consists of outdoor, non-climate-controlled conditions for extended periods, with frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind. Additionally, the role involves frequent exposure to high noise levels from machinery, as well as exposure to chemicals used in field maintenance, and potential mechanical and electrical hazards. The position also includes exposure to dust, fumes, and other environmental elements, some of which may be hazardous, requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety.
