Job Description / Essential Elements:
TITLE OF POSITION: GROUNDSKEEPER
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The job of "Groundskeeper" involves maintaining attractive grounds areas; operating required equipment; protecting against erosion; maintaining grounds for site appearance and recreational activities; and other related duties as assigned. Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintains landscaping including lawns, trees, shrubs, sprinkler systems, driveways, parking lots, and related areas for the purpose of keeping areas attractive and safe.
  • Performs routine light maintenance on grounds equipment to ensure proper and safe equipment operation.
  • Plants landscape materials such as lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, and other related materials for the purpose of keeping the areas attractive and protecting against erosion.
  • Prepares grounds such as ball fields, courtyards, and flowerbeds for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for recreational activity.
  • Inspects landscaped areas and grounds such as fields, parkways and other related areas.
  • Cleans storm drains and rain gutters for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards.
  • Prepares reports such as work orders, forms (including chemical/pesticide use), purchase orders, etc., for the purpose of documenting the completion of tasks and maintains work records of work.
  • Applies chemicals and fertilizers to plant materials for the purpose of promoting and regulating growth.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Requests materials, supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Transports equipment and supplies to designated job sites.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of meeting demands, completing work orders or safety issues in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education and Experience Required: High school diploma or equivalent. One year's experience.
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills in reading and interpreting plans; safe operation of equipment; calculation and proper application of fertilizers, chemicals. Knowledge in basic methods, tools and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance, standards for safe use of fertilizers and chemicals. Ability of walking for extended periods. Significant physical abilities of lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, reaching/handling, talking/hearing ordinary conversation, far visual acuity.
  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability, TB test clearance, and criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
