Job description

Sr Manufacturing Engineer/ NPI role

About the Team

The AV Fleet Engineering team focuses on the manufacturing translation, field deployment, and long-term sustenance of Uber's autonomous vehicle data collection fleet. Working in close partnership with Hardware R&D, our role is to transition vehicle platforms from initial prototype builds into structured field operations, scaling our footprint to a commercial-grade 500+ vehicle fleet.

We coordinate manufacturing logistics, technical field operations, and fleet observability to maximize vehicle uptime and data yield. Our success is defined by ensuring vehicle builds are executed repeatably at our manufacturing partners, launched smoothly in the field, and sustained effectively over their operational lifecycle.

About the Role

We are seeking a technical, rigorous Lead Manufacturing & New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer to drive our fleet build execution and manage its transition into field operations. In this role, you will tech lead a lean team of Manufacturing and Integration & Retrofit Engineers, collaborating directly with Hardware R&D to support active production lines at our contract manufacturing partners. Your focus will be on bringing operational structure to the line, shifting from a bay build line to a mature, predictable production assembly line.

Your mission is to act as the primary technical boundary between Hardware Engineering and the factory floor, absorbing build triage and manufacturing friction so the R&D team can remain focused on design. You will take ownership of the technical Statements of Work (SOWs), oversee the translation of Engineering BOMs (EBOM) to Manufacturing BOMs (MBOM), and manage End-of-Line (EOL) physical and software-driven sensor calibrations. This role is ideal for a hardware lifecycle expert who excels at vendor accountability, team leadership, and cross-functional engineering collaboration.
