Job description

Summary
GrayMatter Robotics is a well-capitalized Physical AI company headquartered in Los Angeles, building Factory SuperIntelligence (FSI) through systems that learn, adapt, and develop genuine process intelligence across every part they touch. Our robots take on the tedious, hazardous, and ergonomically demanding work that has kept manufacturing dependent on a shrinking skilled workforce, delivering superhuman performance. Robotics has a demo problem. GMR doesn't. Our systems are in active production today, adapting autonomously to real geometries, real materials, and real process variation without reprogramming. We deliver our system through a Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) model that converts capital expenditure into an operating subscription, making Physical AI accessible to the manufacturers who need it most. We hire people who want to solve hard physical problems at an industrial scale.
The Robotics Engineer: Government Projects will enable customer success by leading the implementation, deployment, and support activities of smart robotic assistants for surface treatment applications.
Responsibilities
  • Work with customers to understand their manufacturing processes, requirements, and constraints, gathering critical data including measurements, CAD files, and documentation
  • Execute proof of concept projects that demonstrate the capabilities of GrayMatter technologies
  • Own robotic cell design end-to-end, collaborating with design and mechatronics teams to optimize for reachability, cycle time, and efficiency
  • Design and oversee fabrication of custom end-of-arm tooling and fixtures from concept through testing
  • Configure GMR-AI to generate optimized tool paths and trajectories for new applications
  • Rapidly prototype new inspection sensors, tools, and processes, working with sensor vendors to evaluate emerging technologies
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain control components including sensors, relays, and vacuum ejectors
  • Help develop new process recipes to accommodate different materials and geometries
  • Partner with software engineers to prototype new ideas, processes, and methods
  • Work with product and AI teams to continuously improve the customer experience
  • Create documentation, manuals, and educational content
  • Travel up to 30% to customer sites

Export Control Requirements
In order to comply with the export regulations of the United States Government, it is required that the applicant must fall under one of the following categories: (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful permanent resident (i.e. current green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience programming 6DOF robots for various surface finishing applications
  • Familiarity with motion control systems and robotics programming languages (e.g. Robot Operating System) or similar frameworks.
  • Basic programming knowledge in C++, Python, or other similar languages
  • Ability to solve technical problems effectively, efficiently, and independently
  • Demonstrated experience with 3D solid modeling, analysis, and development of 2D manufacturing drawings
  • Familiar with industrial facilities and equipment
  • Effective communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with sensor integration and calibration for robotics applications, including vision systems, LiDAR, and inertial measurement units.
  • Industry experience within a manufacturing environment working on manufacturing process development, manufacturing engineering or similar
  • Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing environment
