Graphic Designer II
Level: Journeyman  |  Work Location: Hybrid – McLean, VA
⚠ This position is contingent upon contract award.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Red Carrot is seeking a Graphic Designer II to lead visual conceptualization, creation, and final production layout of publications and promotional materials, including the customer's flagship research magazine, newsletters, and technical reports.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and produce professional graphics, covers, and layouts for magazine components and technical reports
  • Incorporate text, photos, charts, and illustrations into cohesive, well-balanced designs
  • Create or enhance supplemental art, including diagrams, line art, and logos, to convey complex concepts
  • Manage the full production lifecycle, including figure/photo selection, retouching, cropping, and sizing
  • Provide design support for social media, web content, posters, and exhibit materials
  • Secure appropriate licensing or written permissions for copyrighted material
  • Ensure all deliverables meet Section 508 accessibility and Federal publishing standards
  • Lead small design initiatives and coordinate workflows with technical staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or related field
  • 5-10 years of professional design experience in print and electronic layout
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Acrobat
  • Experience with technical periodicals or in a Federal environment preferred
  • Ability to obtain a USDOT Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential
