Graphic Hourly information

What are some common challenges faced by graphic designers working on an hourly basis, and how can they overcome them?

Graphic designers working hourly often face challenges such as managing multiple client deadlines, accurately tracking billable hours, and handling scope changes mid-project. To overcome these issues, it's important to establish clear project expectations, use time-tracking tools, and communicate proactively with clients about timelines and revisions. Additionally, setting boundaries and having a well-defined contract can help ensure smooth workflow and fair compensation.

What is a graphic hourly?

Graphic hourly jobs refer to positions in the graphic design field where employees are paid by the hour rather than receiving a fixed salary. These jobs may include tasks such as creating logos, designing marketing materials, editing images, and working on digital content. Hourly graphic designers often work as freelancers or on a contract basis, allowing flexibility in terms of projects and scheduling. Payment is typically based on the number of hours worked, with rates varying depending on experience, skill level, and project complexity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a graphic designer?

To thrive as a Graphic Designer, you need strong visual design skills, creativity, and proficiency in design principles, typically supported by a degree or certification in graphic design or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and knowledge of digital asset management systems are essential. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to take feedback make someone stand out in this position. These skills ensure the creation of visually compelling, on-brand materials that meet client or business objectives and adapt to evolving design trends.

Sign Production Designer - Graphic Designer

Englewood, CO • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Image360 Denver Tech Center is looking for a detail-oriented graphic designer who enjoys technical design, problem-solving, and hands-on production.

This is not a traditional creative-agency or marketing-design position. Much of the design work involves preparing customer artwork, creating accurate proofs, setting up print-ready files, and developing layouts for building signs, ADA signage, vehicle graphics, wall graphics, banners, and other large-format products.

This is also a hands-on position. Approximately 50% of the role will be spent assisting with sign and graphics production, including printing, laminating, vinyl cutting, weeding, masking, mounting, assembly, and finishing.

The right person will enjoy taking a project from a customer’s artwork or idea through design, production, and completion. You will get to see the work you prepare become real products that are installed on buildings, vehicles, walls, and throughout businesses across the Denver area.

Compensation: $23 - $27 per hour, plus bonus opportunities, with room to grow based on experience and performance.

Compensation:

$23 - $27 hourly

Responsibilities:
  • Review customer-provided artwork and prepare accurate, production-ready files.

  • Create customer proofs and layouts for building signage, ADA and wayfinding signs, vehicle graphics, window and wall graphics, banners, displays, and other large-format projects.

  • Rebuild, vectorize, resize, and correct customer artwork when necessary.

  • Check dimensions, spelling, colors, bleeds, resolution, cut paths, and other production specifications before files are released.

  • Operate wide-format printers, vinyl plotters, laminators, and related sign-production equipment.

  • Weed and mask vinyl, mount printed graphics, apply laminates, assemble signs, and complete other finishing work.

  • Communicate with sales and production team members to keep projects accurate and on schedule.

  • Manage several active projects while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.

  • Help maintain an organized, clean, and efficient production area.

Qualifications:
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

  • Experience preparing files for print, large-format graphics, signage, packaging, screen printing, or another production environment is strongly preferred.

  • Sign-industry experience is highly preferred but not required for a candidate with closely related print-production or prepress experience.

  • Comfortable working with measurements, scale, proportions, color matching, and detailed production specifications.

  • Able to distinguish between attractive artwork and artwork that will reproduce correctly.

  • Comfortable spending approximately half the workday in hands-on production.

  • Willing and able to learn sign materials, ADA requirements, fabrication methods, equipment, and installation considerations.

  • Organized, dependable, accurate, and able to manage changing priorities.

  • Able to work on-site at our Centennial production facility.

  • Able to safely lift and handle sign and graphic materials as required.

This role is probably not the right fit if you are primarily looking for logo design, social-media content, illustration, web design, or a fully desk-based creative position.

It may be a great fit if you enjoy precise design work, solving production challenges, working with your hands, and seeing finished products come out of the work you prepared.
