Job description

Overview

Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine (TUCOM) seeks a visionary and collaborative physician or PhD educator to serve as Assistant Dean for Clinical Education. Appointed by the Dean and working in close partnership with the Associate Dean for Clinical Education, this leader will help shape the future of clinical training by advancing high-quality rotation development, strengthening clinical partnerships, driving assessment and continuous quality improvement, and championing student success. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence the evolution of clinical education, contribute meaningfully to the College's mission, and advance the preparation of future physicians serving diverse communities.

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: are those work assignments which are predominant, regular and recurring.

      Manage all aspects of student clinical rotation activities.  These include, but are not limited to, assigning students to rotation programs, monitoring evaluations and post-rotation assessments, disseminating protocol information through the rotations manual and in-person presentations, and approving research and international rotation requests.

      Represent the Clinical Education Department on the Student Promotions Committee

      Audit Year 4 student rotation schedules and, with assistance from the Assessment, certify Year 4 students for Graduation.

      Assist with clinical faculty development activities.

      Provide annual reports of student performance and site evaluation to the Year 3 Directors of Medical Education.

      Work closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to insure that students are progressing toward graduate medical education.

      Function as a liaison with Department Chairs, faculty, the other Deans and the curriculum committee relative to student clinical rotations.

      Maintaining a spreadsheet of all student clinical activities to include all necessary documents, grades, scheduling and databases.

      Assist the Associate Dean for Clinical Education in the assessment and review of all affiliated clinical sites

      Develops and maintains a Handbook for Rotations for students and adjunct faculty, including establishment and implementation of policies for attendance, time off among other issues

      Assist the Associate Dean for Clinical Education in the development of the curriculum for clinical rotations, the recruitment of adjunct faculty, and the oversight and evaluation of the Clinical Education Department staff

      Tracks graduation requirements and certifies that students meet graduation criteria in collaboration with the Registrar

      Assist the Associate Dean in oversight and evaluation of the Clinical Education staff

      Assist the Associate Dean in functioning as a mediator for any disputes between a student and adjunct faculty while on clinical rotations

      Works with alumni office to follow graduates in post-graduation education programs

      Other responsibilities as determined by the Associate Dean for Clinical Education

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (if applicable): should reflect who the employee is supervising and what the expectations are.

      Assist the Associate Dean in oversight and evaluation of the Clinical Education staff

Qualifications

      Doctoral degree required (DO, MD, or PhD).

      Demonstrated experience in medical school administration, preferably within undergraduate medical education and/or clinical education.

      Progressive leadership experience in academic medicine or a related healthcare education environment.
