UAM is a comprehensive, residential and commuter, undergraduate institution also offering selected master's degree programs.

Summary of Job Duties:
Graduate assistants will perform duties relevant to their degree and future profession. This may include conducting ensembles, teaching methods courses, teaching applied lessons, or other duties as needed by the Division of Music and within the graduate assistant's area of expertise. The graduate assistant may also play in different ensembles as needed. The graduate assistantship is a 12-month appointment designed for completion of a one-year master's degree in jazz studies.
Qualifications:
(1) The applicant must have completed the requirements for the baccalaureate degree prior to enrolling in the first graduate class and have gained admission to the Graduate School at the University of Arkansas at Monticello or elsewhere. The applicant must have a Bachelor of Music Degree or at least 18 credit hours in the area of performant, education, or jazz (instruments include saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, set, and voice).
(2) Competency on a least one of the instruments listed above will be determined at the discretion of the instructing faculty.
(3) The applicant must also provide a recording of two contrasting standard jazz tunes with head and improvisation, specific jazz scales and modes as determined by the program director, and a jazz tune of the applicant's choice with head and improvisation.
(4) The applicant must submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and name and contact information for 3 professional references. A list of eligible applicants will be forwarded by the Director of Graduate Jazz Studies or the Director of Choral Activities to the Chair of the Division of Music. Some applicants may require additional interviewing and/or review of credentials to evaluate possible selections.
(5) The applicant must sign a contract that outlines the duration of the graduate assistantship, the stipend amount, hours associated with the assistantship, and a description of job duties. The GA will be advised by the Director of Graduate Jazz Studies, the Director of Choral Activities, and/or the Chair of the Division of Music on additional paperwork that is needed prior to the appointment.
(6) Additional orientation meetings may be required by UAM, the Graduate School, or the Division of Music.

Graduate assistants will perform duties relevant to their degree and future profession. This may include conducting ensembles, teaching methods courses, teaching applied lessons, or other duties as needed by the Division of Music and within the graduate assistant's area of expertise.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate organization skills, effective time management and a high level of self-direction in pursuit of assigned tasks and obligations.
