Job Summary/Basic Function
RA positions support the research mission of the university.
Specific Responsibilities
A diatom analyst is needed to analyze fossil diatoms from Lake Coeur d'Alene sediment cores as part of a funded research project exploring potential changes associated with the effects of long-term mining pollution.
Duties will involve chemical preparation sediment samples from lake sediments, including diatom extraction for microfossil analyses, microscope slide preparation, and SEM stub preparation. Diatom sample analysis includes microscopic slide analyses (identification to species and enumeration) of approximately 1000 diatom slides, multivariate statistical analyses of diatom data produced, periodic composition of scientific reports, and presentation of results at annual scientific meetings to collaborators.
