Summary:
Acting as a representative of Faith Health, the Construction Manager will oversee projects to ensure that all new construction, renovation projects and system upgrades are completed according to plan specifications, current building codes and quality craftsmanship. This individual will also be responsible for the supervision of internal construction projects and act as the owner's representative for all construction and renovation projects in which an outside contractor is utilized. Carries out managerial and leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws. This position will be responsible for the management of the construction department, overseeing the interviewing and hiring employee process; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising employee performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing department concerns and resolving problems. Employee must be able to read and interpret construction prints, lay out projects and build per the specifications. Must be able to communicate well with the Director of Facilities Management, co-workers, facility leaders, employees and contractors.

Responsibilities:
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Employee must have the knowledge and ability to conduct the following responsibilities in an efficient and professional manor:
  • Strong working knowledge of carpentry tools and materials.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and project manuals.
  • Construction knowledge of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge in all types of building materials.
  • Knowledge of International Building Code Books.
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes and regulations.
  • Ability to research building construction codes and regulations for healthcare compliance.
  • Strong communication ability with co-workers and Director.
  • Carries out the duties and responsibilities of position without specific supervision.
  • Ability oversee work being completed by outside contractors and sub-contractors.
  • Ability to understand all phases of construction projects.
  • Ability to produce drawings.
  • Able to efficiently utilize computers for email communication, AutoCad programs, Construction documents, and general business needs.
  • Conduct monthly rounding with direct report employees.
  • Ability to delegate.

  1. Responsible for the following:

  • Coordinating other project-related activities as appropriate or requested.
  • Overseeing the safety of construction projects, obtaining building permits, working with local authority having jurisdiction to conduct inspections as required.
  • Working with city officials and be prepared to answer questions regarding all construction projects within Faith Health.
  • Ordering construction supplies, coordinating deliveries and storage, tracking material and reviewing invoices for payment.
  • Managing of multiple and varied projects involving new construction, renovation and system upgrades in both internal and external settings.
  • Available, upon request to serve as a consultant to the Environment of Care Committee and/or subcommittees.

  1. Works with departmental co-workers, members of the multi-disciplinary health care team, physicians, physicians' office personnel, patients, general public and outside contractors.
  1. Inspect, test, adjust and coordinate repairs of all construction projects and provide appropriate follow-up with identified wear and defect of various system checks.
  1. Responsible for reviewing construction plan documents following the completion of all planning and development processes and making recommendations to the Director of Facilities Management and Faith Health administration regarding these documents prior to approval of all construction or renovation projects.
  1. Responsible, upon the specific request of the Director, to act as a consultant during the planning and development process of new construction projects, renovation projects or system upgrades.
  1. Responsible for reviewing new construction project requests, putting together bids to include material and labor costs along with estimated timeline for completion.
  1. Responsible for acting as an owner's representative by reviewing project specification documents prior to initiation of construction projects and ensuring that project construction follows those specifications.
  1. Responsible for notifying department leadership of any failure of contractors to follow project specifications and/or any failure of projects to meet current building, fire or other specific code requirements.
  1. Responsible for ongoing communication with project contractors, architects, the Director of Facilities Management and Faith Health administration during the construction phase of all new construction, renovation, or system upgrade projects in an effort to ensure compliance with project specifications and code compliance.
  1. Provide for regular, ongoing projects updates and communications to the Director of Facilities Management, throughout all new construction, renovation, or system upgrade projects undertaken by Faith Health.
  1. Provide for consultative input, as requested, in consultations with architects, contractors and other project-related individuals and/or organizations.
  1. Must be able to safely operate power tools and all construction related tools and equipment, motor vehicles, maneuver trailers and operate construction equipment such as various lifts and powered equipment.

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

2-4 years of previous experience in field required.
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:

Language Skills - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the Spanish language preferred.
KNOWLEDGE:
Construction project management required.
Other Certifications/Requirements:
Current, valid driver's license issued in the state of legal Residence required.
