POSITION OVERVIEW:

IslandWood'sGraduate Program Mentoring Coordinator position will support the Senior Practicum Faculty and theEducation for Environment and Community (EEC)Team to provide mentoring and support for graduate students during their ten-month EEC Program. Through inclusive partnership with the senior faculty for Practicum this individual will mentor and provide instructional coaching through a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) lens for graduate students, support learning for IW staff who serve as mentors, coordinate the mentoring program by supporting the design and implementation of the mentoring at IslandWood.

The Graduate Program Mentoring Coordinator will play a key role in graduate community development and assist graduates to become the best educators they can be. The Graduate Program Mentoring Coordinator will also lead on communications with graduate students.

Classification: Full Time Hourly/Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday Friday occasional weekend

Pay Range: $23.85 - $28.00/HR

Paid Time off annual benefit:

IslandWood offers 3 weeks paid vacation, floating holidays, 10 annual paid holidays (paid if applicable during contract period) and 80 hours of paid annual sick leave.Prorated based on date of hire and length of service.


PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Mentoring Graduate Students approx. 80%

  • Mentor up to twelve graduate students (approximately six per cohort)
  • Collaborate with Senior Faculty for Practicum to design and implement mentoring at IslandWood
  • Facilitate professional learning community for IW staff who are mentoring graduate students
  • Take video/field observations
  • Collaborate with graduate students to identify and attain instructional goals
  • Support graduates during orientation and throughout the academic year
  • Participate in teaching/modeling campus program curriculum and pedagogical strategies
  • Encompass model teaching, instructional coaching, and supporting practicum sessions

Support the EEC Grad Program approx. 20%

  • Support Senior Practicum Faculty to weave mentoring into practicum.
  • Provide administrative support for the Education for Environment and Community (EEC)
  • Collaborate with the Recruitment Manager to provide campus tours, Participate in online info sessions, and meet with prospective students to support EEC recruitment
  • Lead on communication with graduate community, care & support
  • Liaise with internal departments (kitchen, P&C, admin) to facilitate intake for incoming graduate students
  • Complete special projects as identified by EEC Director in support of the program
  • Commit to learning and growing through feedback in an active learning community
  • Support Island Woods work towards justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Masters degree in education,instructional coaching,environmental education, environmental science, biology, ecology, or related field or equivalent relevant expertise.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience ininformalor formalsettings
  • Ability to integrate creative experiential programs and work with elementary students and adults in a dynamic, respectful, rigorous, creative, and enthusiastic way
  • Demonstrate IslandWood's core values that enable teams and individuals to succeed with shared respect and purpose
  • Ability to respond professionally to a variety of situations that may arise quickly
  • Must be able to comply with and maintain a drug-free work environment
