Job description

AMECO is seeking a motivated Intern – Tax Analyst to join our Tax team. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in gaining hands-on experience in corporate tax compliance, with exposure to sales and use tax, GST/HST/PST, and audit support in a dynamic, in-office environment.

This position directly supports the Tax Manager and Director of Tax/Treasury role by assisting in the preparation of sales tax returns and other special projects within the tax team and other functional groups in the organization.

This position directly supports the Tax Manager and Director of Tax/Treasury role by assisting in the preparation of sales tax returns and other special projects within the tax team and other functional groups in the organization.

Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in the data gathering, preparation and timely submission of US sales and use tax and Canada GST/HST, PST returns.
  • Maintain tax calendar to ensure all monthly, quarterly and annual sales and use tax returns and payments are submitted to the State and local authorities, timely.
  • Assist in monitoring and sorting incoming sales tax-related emails to identify urgent document requests and tax notices.
  • Resale certificate management and preparation for US vendors and maintaining certificates in repository (SharePoint).
  • Assist with the annual business license renewals, including verifying correct tax type, documentation and updating sales, use and rental tax information.
  • Assist in the preparation, data gathering and responding to tax authorities’ information document request for sales and use tax audits.
  • GL account analyses assistance and preparation of recurring Journal Entries.
Minimum Qualifications - Related Education, Experience & Skills
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite especially with Excel worksheets.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, management and clients.
  • Effectively manage one’s workflow providing timely work products proactively manage conflict priorities within the team workflow.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province statutes and guidelines.
