Qualifications Required
1. Requires a bachelor's degree; Applicants are expected to enroll in a Master's degree program at their own expense. Requires coaching or teaching experience and at least one year of competitive basketball experience. Experience coaching or playing in a collegiate basketball program preferred. Requires CPR/AED/First Aid certification (this would be provided by CCC if needed)
2. Possesses the ability to work with a diverse population of college student-athletes, as well as the ability to deliver coaching instruction in various learning styles. Requires the ability to demonstrate basketball skills to student-athletes.
3. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of basketball techniques, strategies, equipment, and safety measures, including sport regulations and guidelines. Appropriate coaching certifications required.
4. A relatively high level of analytical skills is needed to interpret and provide instruction, mentoring, and motivational coaching to student-athletes in the skills, techniques, and competitive strategies necessary for individual and team achievement. Requires the ability to evaluate individual and team performance and refine individual and team strategies throughout the season.
5. Requires substantial interpersonal skills to interact with diverse populations, including prospective students, parents, coaches, faculty, physicians, and other professionals. Exhibits sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with various community agencies.
6. Requires strong computer skills and aptitude. The individual should possess a working knowledge of or have the ability to learn college software packages (e.g., various Microsoft Office programs) and Colleague.
General Summary
The Graduate Assistant for basketball works under the supervision of the Head Men's Basketball Coach and is responsible for supporting all aspects of the basketball program. S/He will assist in organizing and leading practices, managing travel logistics, and helping with team scheduling. The Graduate Assistant will also provide support in recruiting student-athletes, coordinating game day operations, and ensuring team compliance with academic and athletic standards. The Graduate Assistant will collaborate closely with coaching staff, athletic administration, and student-athletes, while adhering to college policies and procedures. This part-time position, located on the Columbus Campus, will assist with other duties on campus which may include housing, admissions, and/or game day operations. Will perform duties and responsibilities under college policies and procedures.
