Scale Operator

Position Summary:
The Scale Operator is responsible for accurately weighing inbound and outbound vehicles, recording transaction data, and providing excellent customer service to drivers and customers. This role ensures compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Weighing and Ticketing: Operate computerized truck scales to weigh inbound and outbound loads; capture gross, tare, and net weights; and generate accurate scale tickets.
  • Material Grading and Inspection: Inspect and identify various types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals to ensure proper grading in accordance with industry standards.
  • Customer Service and Interaction: Greet customers, suppliers, and drivers; provide clear instructions and direct them to appropriate unloading areas.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce site safety rules, monitor radiation detection systems for potential contaminants, and ensure compliance with environmental and state regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer Proficiency: Experience with data entry and scale/ticketing software.
  • Material Knowledge: Ability to identify and differentiate between metal types (e.g., copper, aluminum, steel).
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with customers and yard staff.

Work Schedule:
