Heavy Equipment Operator – Wet Utilities

Location: Washington, DC

Position Overview:

We are seeking a full-time Heavy Equipment Operator with experience in wet utility installation. The ideal candidate will be proficient in operating excavators, skid steers, and other heavy machinery used in grading, trenching, and laying stormwater, sanitary sewer, and domestic water lines. This role requires technical skill, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators and skid steers to perform grading, trenching, and utility installation.
  • Assist with setting precast structures and laying storm, sewer, and water lines.
  • Follow instructions from the Foreman and Project Manager to meet daily production goals.
  • Ensure equipment is operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and adhere to all job-site safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Accurately report hours worked, equipment usage, and site conditions to the Foreman.
  • Collaborate with crew members to ensure efficient and high-quality work.
Qualifications:
  • 2–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in wet utility installation.
  • Proficient in the safe operation of excavators and/or skid steers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and cut sheets is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
  • Ability to pass a federal background check.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing tasks that require standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Visual acuity for reading plans and operating equipment safely.
