Job description

The Opportunity
Lastwall is a Canadian cybersecurity company focused on identity and mission-critical operations across defense, government, and critical infrastructure.
Trusted by the U.S. Department of Defense and the Government of Canada, Lastwall has spent nearly a decade securing sensitive government environments. With FedRAMP Moderate Authorization, proven traction in the U.S. federal market, and growing demand for sovereign cybersecurity capability, we are entering a defining growth phase across Canada and the United States.
We are hiring an Infrastructure Engineer to help operate, improve, and scale the secure infrastructure behind Lastwall's identity platform. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can work across cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, automation, observability, and incident response in high-trust, compliance-driven environments.
As an AWS GovCloud organization, Lastwall uses infrastructure as code to manage distributed systems with a focus on security, reliability, automation, and compliance. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of infrastructure that supports demanding defense, government, and critical infrastructure customers, including environments where reliability and performance matter for mission-critical use cases.
You will join a small, high-impact infrastructure and platform team where strong technical judgment, operational discipline, and secure engineering practices matter. You will help improve the systems, tools, and workflows that allow Lastwall to deliver resilient software at scale.
Headquartered in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and with offices in Vancouver and Honolulu, Lastwall is positioned to help strengthen North American cyber resilience.
The Role
  • Secure Cloud Infrastructure
    • Operate and improve Lastwall's FedRAMP-aligned infrastructure across AWS GovCloud and related environments. Build and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable cloud systems that support mission-critical identity services.
  • Infrastructure as Code & Automation
    • Develop, maintain, and improve infrastructure as code using tools such as AWS CDK and Terraform. Help deepen Lastwall's use of automation to make infrastructure provisioning, configuration, deployment, and operations repeatable, auditable, and secure.
  • Platform Engineering
    • Contribute to Lastwall's platform engineering efforts by improving the systems, tooling, and workflows that support product development, testing, deployment, and production operations. Help create rapid feedback loops and strong collaboration between infrastructure and product engineering.
  • Reliability, Observability & Operability
    • Improve monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting across distributed systems. Use tools and practices such as CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and related observability technologies to improve system visibility, operational readiness, and incident response.
  • CI/CD & Deployment Tooling
    • Enhance and maintain deployment tooling and CI/CD pipelines to support reliable software delivery. Work with tools such as GitLab, CodeCommit, CodeDeploy, Docker, and containerized workloads to improve release quality and development velocity.
  • Security & Compliance-Driven Operations
    • Apply secure infrastructure practices across networking, access control, secrets management, containerized workloads, system hardening, and operational automation. Support infrastructure practices aligned with FedRAMP, NIST 800-series controls, GovCloud deployments, and FIPS 140-2 expectations.
  • Incident Response & Learning from Incidents
    • Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and operational remediation. Help guide the team through Learning From Incidents practices so that reliability, security, and operational maturity improve over time.
  • Technical Collaboration
    • Work closely with infrastructure, product engineering, security, and compliance stakeholders to evaluate tradeoffs, improve architecture, and deliver infrastructure that meets customer, compliance, and operational needs.

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of industry experience in cloud-native infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or systems engineering, ideally in SaaS, cybersecurity, identity, government technology, or other complex software environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • U.S. citizenship or dual U.S./Canadian citizenship, due to the nature of the environments and customers supported by this role.
  • Experience building and managing secure, scalable, distributed cloud systems.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, ideally including AWS CDK and Terraform.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services, ideally including AWS GovCloud or similarly regulated environments.
  • Working knowledge of EC2, Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized workloads.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and cloud networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including tools such as GitLab, CodeCommit, or CodeDeploy.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, and security automation, including tools such as CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, or Prometheus.
  • Experience with relational databases and managed database services, including PostgreSQL, RDS, or Aurora.
  • Experience with incident response and troubleshooting, ideally in critical, high-reliability, or life-and-safety-sensitive environments.
  • Excellent coding and scripting skills, with familiarity or ability to quickly ramp in tools and languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Bash, GraphQL, or Rust.
  • Comfort in a small but growing company, where ownership, adaptability, and practical execution matter.

Nice to Have
  • Strong AWS experience, ideally including AWS GovCloud or similarly regulated cloud environments.
  • Experience with FedRAMP, NIST 800-series controls, GovCloud deployments, or FIPS 140-2 compliance.
  • Experience with Amazon OpenSearch.
  • Experience developing operational tooling in Node.js, TypeScript, or Rust.
  • Experience supporting PostgreSQL/RDS/Aurora in production environments.
  • Experience with GraphQL in operational or product-supporting contexts.
  • Experience with security scanning, infrastructure security automation, vulnerability management, or compliance evidence collection.
  • Experience improving architecture, observability, and operability in distributed systems.
  • Experience working with product engineering teams to improve test, deployment, and release workflows.
  • Familiarity with authentication, identity, PKI, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, or Zero Trust architectures.

Why Lastwall?
Lastwall offers a competitive compensation package aligned with the scope and impact of the role. Final compensation will reflect experience, location, and fit with the mandate.
This is an opportunity to join after the product, customers, and proof points are real-but before the next stage of scale is fully built. Lastwall has a proven platform, demanding customers, meaningful accreditations, strong market timing, and new strategic perspective from investors and board leadership.
At Lastwall, your voice is heard, recognized, and valued. We are building a people-first, security-always culture where strong contributors can have meaningful impact as the company grows.
For the right candidate, this is a chance to help build secure, resilient infrastructure at the intersection of identity, sovereignty, resilience, and national security.
