Position Summary: This role will be located in Oxford, North Carolina. We are seeking a Mid-Level Geologist/Environmental Scientist to join our team. Conducts analysis of soil, groundwater, or atmospheric samples to determine if pollutants are present and implements appropriate corrective action if necessary. Assists in the management, analysis, and interpretation of environmental data. Performs environmental compliance audits and risk assessments. Typical tasks will include field work planning and preparation, drilling and monitoring well installation oversight, logging soil boreholes, and report preparation including text, tables, and figures. This position will have field and non-field related responsibilities. Extended travel may be required (up to 80%). Essential Job Functions: * Oversees the installation of groundwater monitoring wells and performs various types of environmental sampling, including low-flow groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, subsurface vapor, and air sampling. * Performs a combination of field investigations and office-based project support, including preparing tables and maps, evaluating chemical and geological data, collaborating with project teams, and developing recommendations, memoranda, technical reports, and proposals. * Researches the formation, dissolution, and content of rock layers and sediment deposits. Collects rock, soil, and mineral samples and prepares technical reports and geological maps for insight. * Studies variations in rock formations and densities to identify new mineral deposits. Estimates depth, quality and size of deposits. * Tests mineral quality and purity to determine the feasibility of mining. * Utilizes radar imaging, drone technologies, and geological maps to collect, analyze, and interpret site data.' * Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function and demonstrates proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the position. * Oversee drilling operations and groundwater monitoring well installations. * Perform groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment, vapor, air, and related environmental sampling. * Log soil borings and document field observations. * Interpret geological and environmental data to support project recommendations. * Support environmental compliance audits, site assessments, and risk evaluations. * Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, regulators, and project teams. * Maintain complete field documentation and quality records. * Ensure compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and project-specific safety requirements. * Perform other duties assigned by the Project Manager or Supervisor. Education/Training: * Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related scientific discipline. * Professional Geologist (PG) or similar licensure preferred. * OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER preferred; ability to qualify as SSHO per EM385-1-1. * CPR/FA, a plus. Experience Needed: * 5-7 years of directly related geology, environmental, or construction experience. * 5-7 years of environmental consulting and federal project experience preferred. * Experience supporting government facilities, base or installations, preferred. Required Skills and Abilities: * Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills. * Strong technical writing and analytical skills. * Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and preparation of technical deliverables. * Ability to evaluate environmental chemistry and geological data. * Strong attention to detail is required. * Ability to analyze chemistry and environmental data is required. * Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers required. * Working knowledge of the conceptual site model process is preferred. * Ability to work during core and extended hours as required. * Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and experience preparing technical reports, memos, response to comments tables, and diagrams. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in changing environments. * Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Physical Demands: * Perform field work in varying terrain * Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous * Use varied hand and power tools and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment. * Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Work Environment: * This is an onsite position that requires work to be performed onsite at an Aleut Federal work location. * This position requires regularly working in outside weather conditions. * Regularly work near moving mechanical parts and frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. * Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. * The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require hearing protection. * Exposure to weather, noise, moving equipment, dust, chemicals, and uneven terrain. * Hearing protection and other PPE may be required. Special Requirements: * Ability to pass background and drug screening. * Ability to obtain access to DoD/DOE installations, requiring US Citizenship. * Ability to pass a HAZWOPER physical. * Valid driver's license required. * Extended travel up to approximately 80%.
