GovCon Tax Manager - Public Accounting | Fairfax, VA | Hybrid


Are you a seasoned tax professional with government contracting expertise looking for meaningful work and excellent work/life balance?


Thompson Greenspon, a mid-sized CPA firm ranked as a Top Workplace by the Washington Post for many years, seeks a GovCon Tax Manager ready to make an immediate impact.

We are seeking an experienced and driven GovCon Tax Manager to lead our portfolio of government contracting clients. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the unique tax compliance for government contractors, including working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations. As the GovCon Tax Manager, you'll work directly with clients, and lead a team of sharp professionals, in an environment with the depth and technology of a larger firm, but the culture of a close-knit team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and review complex tax engagements, including the planning and supervision of the tax return preparation process
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations including FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), CAS (Cost Accounting Standards), and other industry-specific rules
  • Research complex tax matters and communicate findings
  • Advise clients on tax matters related to government contractors
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff; lead by example in developing technical and soft skills
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on growth strategy, client service initiatives, and team development
  • Identify cross-functional opportunities and work with other service lines on integrated solutions


Qualifications

  • CPA license (required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Master's in Taxation, Accounting, or Law a plus
  • 10+ years of tax experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax compliance and consulting for government contractors
  • Leadership experience, including managing and mentoring staff
  • Strong technical knowledge in S-Corp, C-Corp, and partnership taxation
  • Deep familiarity with GovCon-specific regulations and tax issues
  • Experience with CCH Axcess tax software a plus
  • Excellent client service, communication, and project management skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
