Position Summary:
The role of Product Development Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle of new product design and development (NPD), from initial concept through production launch, with a focus on innovation, R&D, sustainability, and manufacturability. They will create CAD models, conduct FEA/testing, select materials, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet design, cost, and regulatory requirements. The Product Development Engineer operates within the company's core values of Accountability, Collaboration, and Empowerment (ACE), working directly with the engineering teams' business units with PCG and Core Engineering.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years experience in Product design, development or R&D
  • Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills to act as a direct technical liaison with internal and external functions, specifically applications engineering, program management, and sales
  • Creative and analytical problem solver with demonstrated technical and product design abilities who works well with a team
  • Proficiency in CAD design (Solidworks preferred), GD&T and Drafting
  • Knowledge of injection molding, stamping and machined part design techniques to meet cost and manufacturability targets
  • New Design Project Management & customer-facing discussions/presentations
  • Experience in ERP workflow processes (BOM development, ECO, routing, etc.)
  • General understanding of drawings, Mil-Specs, Industry standards, and customer requirements
  • Experience in connector design or similar electronics industry is a plus
  • Experience in New product development and product life cycle

  • Performs product design/development of new products to meet customer-funded programs and new product development projects in accordance with site capabilities, engineering standards, systems, procedures, and policies
  • Specifies designs and documents all materials, components, performance specifications, etc.
  • Creates detailed drawings, procedures, test specifications and BOM's as needed to manufacture designs
  • Documents and records all product data/design information using CAD and product data management/ERP system
  • Performs research to determine product design/development feasibility (FAE)
  • Initiates, reviews, and processes ECO's for existing product designs/parts
  • Follow your designs through production and solicit feedback from process engineering - support the designs beyond engineering release
  • Experiment with new areas of SolidWorks that may ultimately help the department become more efficient and/or knowledgeable
  • Identifies and/or specifies the sequence of production steps and special equipment/tooling requirements, test requirements, test plans/procedures, and special test equipment, sources for new materials, processes, and/or equipment
  • Reviews and provides technical content of proposal/quote response (i.e., specification reviews, design concept drawings, performance limits, etc.) to applications and sales teams, pre-award
  • Collaborate across PCG in a way that leads by example, holds people accountable, and utilizes data to make informed decisions
  • Actively participate on behalf of the Engineering team both internally and externally on NPI projects, Quoting, Contract Review, Process Specifications, Design Release, MRBs, RMAs, CAR's, production, and general customer inquiries
  • Participate and lead within the engineering team in standard processes including DFM, DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Learn how all processes work and how design has an impact on them
  • Delays and critical info should be communicated effectively.
  • Follow your designs through production and solicit feedback from process engineering - support the designs beyond engineering release
  • Experiment with new areas of SolidWorks that may ultimately help the department become more efficient and/or knowledgeable

Pay Transparency:
Winchester Interconnect Corporation is committed to pay transparency. The pay range for this position is $125,000-$160,000 per year, plus incentive compensation.
