Job description

The mission of Goodwin University is to educate a diverse student population in a dynamic environment that aligns education, commerce, and community. Our innovative programs of study prepare students for professional careers while promoting lifelong learning and civic responsibility. As a nurturing university community, we challenge students, faculty, staff, and administration to fully realize their highest academic, professional, and personal potential.

The School of Applied Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate microbiology courses. Adjunct faculty members teach on a semester-by-semester basis. They are expected to perform all instruction-related duties and responsibilities promptly and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of Goodwin University. Adjunct faculty members report to the Director/Coordinator, who serves under the direction of the Dean.

Essential Duties:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Abiding by and upholding Goodwin's mission, policies, and core values
  • Completing required professional development (e.g., FERPA)
  • Teaching students in assigned course(s)
  • Implementing assigned courses as designed and specified in approved syllabi.
  • Using Canvas effectively
  • Assigning grades based on specified criteria as delineated in course syllabi and posting the grades to Canvas and the University's data systems
  • Being available to students for individual consultation
  • Assisting students with how to be successful in a college class
  • Communicating promptly with their director, students, and staff
  • Meeting all course and semester timelines, including submitting attendance, mid-term grades, and final grades by the specified due dates
  • Staying current within the field of study

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Master's degree in microbiology or a related field. Expertise in teaching microbiology courses covering various topics
  • A commitment to student-centered teaching while maintaining high academic and professional standards is required
  • A successful track record of teaching at the collegiate level is preferred
  • Availability for day and evening on-campus classes is required
