Chief of Staff to the CEO

Allocor Tech

Crozet, VA • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Posted 18 days ago

Job description

Join a fast-scaling aerospace startup and set the standard for excellence.

Company Overview

Allocortech designs and manufactures mission-critical power electronics and avionics including motor controllers, battery management systems, power distribution, flight control, and flight termination systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAS/UAM) and unmanned maritime platforms. Our customers are leaders in advanced air mobility, uncrewed aircraft, and electric watercraft. The team brings deep experience from organizations including Northrop Grumman, L3Harris, Sierra Space, and Aurora Flight Sciences.

We are a team of approximately 35 people generating roughly $10M in annual revenue. We recently closed a $6.0M Series A and are projecting 100–200% revenue growth over the next year as we scale production, expand our customer base, and professionalize the business beyond its engineering-led roots. This is a pivotal moment: we are building the executive and operational infrastructure required to support rapid, disciplined growth while protecting the speed and agility that got us here.

Role Summary

The Chief of Staff will serve as a strategic partner and force multiplier to the CEO during a period of rapid scaling. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for someone who moves fluidly between big-picture strategy and hands-on analytical and operational execution. You will shape strategic plans, build financial models and board materials, support M&A and partnership activity, and ensure the CEO’s time and priorities stay focused on what matters most as Allocor.tech matures from a 35-person engineering-led company into a scaled organization.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

  • Lead development of the annual strategic plan and long-range roadmap in partnership with the CEO and executive team.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable initiatives with clear owners, timelines, and success metrics; track execution and report progress.
  • Conduct market, competitive, and industry analysis across UAS/UAM, advanced air mobility, and uncrewed maritime markets.
  • Prepare board meeting materials, strategic memos, and decision briefing documents.

Financial Analysis & Modeling

  • Build and maintain financial models, pro formas, and scenario analyses to support strategic decisions, pricing, capital investments, and market entry.
  • Partner with Finance/FP&A on annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; provide independent analytical support directly to the CEO.
  • Develop business cases and ROI analyses for capital expenditures, new production capacity, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support investor relations with the Series A board and future fundraising, including board packages, KPI dashboards, and financial analysis.

Corporate Development

  • Support evaluation of M&A targets, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and licensing opportunities (market sizing, diligence, valuation).
  • Help manage the deal process end-to-end: target identification, outreach coordination, diligence checklists, and integration planning.
  • Build and maintain relationships with investment banks, potential partners, and strategic advisors alongside the CEO.
  • Track industry M&A activity, funding trends, and competitor moves relevant to unmanned systems and power electronics.

Executive Support & Communications

  • Build polished, board- and investor-grade presentations for board meetings, investor updates, customer/partner meetings, and internal all-hands.
  • Draft and edit executive communications, including internal memos, customer-facing materials, and external messaging.
  • Act as a thought partner to the CEO on major decisions — preparing agendas, structuring problems, and driving follow-through on action items.
  • Manage high-priority special projects that require cross-functional coordination across Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Finance.
  • Serve as a trusted liaison between the CEO and senior leadership, ensuring alignment and execution.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree a plus.
  • 5–10+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, management consulting, corporate strategy, or a chief-of-staff / finance role — ideally with exposure to manufacturing, aerospace/defense, or industrial technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to build sophisticated financial models (three-statement models, pro formas, valuation, sensitivity/scenario analysis).
  • Exceptional presentation-building skills (PowerPoint/Google Slides) with a track record of producing board- and investor-grade materials.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable drafting materials in the CEO’s voice.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams under tight deadlines.
  • High discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information.

Preferred

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, advanced air mobility, uncrewed systems, or power electronics / component manufacturing.
  • Prior experience supporting M&A transactions (buy-side or sell-side) or corporate development functions.
  • Familiarity with government/defense contracting (DoD, primes, FMS) is a plus.
  • Experience working directly with a CEO, founder, or senior executive in a chief-of-staff capacity.

Key Attributes

  • Strategic thinker who is equally comfortable rolling up sleeves on detailed analysis.
  • Highly organized self-starter who thrives with ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Low-ego, high-trust operator who can represent the CEO credibly with the board, customers, and partners.
  • Intellectual curiosity about the unmanned systems and defense technology industry.

What Success Looks Like in the First Year

  • A clear, well-socialized strategic plan and roadmap is in place, with metrics tracked against it.
  • Financial models and budgeting processes give the CEO and board reliable visibility into the business.
  • At least one corporate development opportunity (partnership, acquisition, or investment) has been meaningfully advanced.
  • Board and investor materials are consistently high-quality, timely, and require minimal CEO rework.
  • The CEO’s time and attention are more effectively focused on the highest-value strategic priorities.
  • The company is on track against its 100–200% growth target, with scaling risks and resource needs identified early.

This position may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, computer work, and occasional exposure to moderate levels of noise, dust, and fumes in production areas.
Level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
