Why This Role Exists
As Allocortech scales toward AS9100 certification and higher production volumes, quality can no longer be an implicit, shared responsibility. Defects caught late in production create cascading rework cycles, inflate WIP, and erode margins. This role establishes a dedicated quality gate within the production workflow, ensuring that standards are enforced in-process rather than after the fact.
Role Summary
The Senior In-Process Quality Specialist owns the quality gate for all production hardware. You will define and enforce metrology and inspection standards for low- and high-power avionics electronics, lead root cause investigations when anomalies arise, and drive corrective actions to closure. Your work directly reduces WIP, eliminates rework, and builds the quality system infrastructure required for AS9100 certification.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary in-process quality gate for all production hardware, performing inspections at defined hold points and authorizing release to downstream operations.
- Define and document metrology and inspection methods for high-power electronic assemblies, including IPC-A-610 workmanship standards and high-voltage safety verification.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective/Preventive Action (CAPA) investigations for production anomalies, using 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D methodologies as appropriate.
- Author and maintain process inspection instructions, acceptance criteria, and quality records to AS9100 Clause 8.6 standards.
- Track and report quality metrics (first-pass yield, defect density, CAPA cycle time) to engineering and operations leadership.
- Partner with manufacturing engineering to embed quality controls into process design, reducing reliance on end-of-line inspection.
- Support incoming material inspection and supplier quality corrective actions as needed.
- Participate in internal audits and management reviews as the quality function representative.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in quality engineering or in-process inspection within an electronics or aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, or equivalent workmanship standards for electronic assemblies.
- Experience leading RCA/CAPA investigations and driving corrective actions to measurable closure.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
- Proficiency with measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, thermal imaging) and statistical process control (SPC) techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASQ CQE, CQI, or CQT certification.
- Experience with high-power or high-voltage electronics manufacturing.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems for non-conformance tracking.
- Prior experience supporting AS9100 certification audits.
