Golf Chef information

What is a golf chef?

A Golf Chef is a culinary professional responsible for preparing and overseeing the food and beverage offerings at golf clubs, golf resorts, or golf courses. Their role involves creating menus that cater to golfers and guests, managing kitchen staff, and ensuring high standards of food quality and safety. Golf Chefs may also plan special events, work within a set budget, and accommodate dietary restrictions. Their work helps enhance the overall experience for club members and visitors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a golf chef?

To thrive as a Golf Chef, you need culinary expertise, menu planning skills, and experience in high-volume food preparation, typically supported by a culinary degree or relevant certifications. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, food safety regulations, and inventory management systems is essential. Strong leadership, creativity, and excellent communication help you deliver exceptional dining experiences and coordinate with both kitchen staff and club management. These skills ensure high-quality cuisine, operational efficiency, and member satisfaction in a golf club setting.

What are the primary challenges a golf chef faces in planning menus for club events and tournaments?

Golf Chefs often need to create diverse and appealing menus that cater to a wide range of member preferences and dietary needs, especially during club events and tournaments with large guest lists. Balancing creativity with consistency and cost-effectiveness is key, as events may require upscale, themed, or seasonal offerings. Additionally, Golf Chefs must coordinate closely with event planners, front-of-house staff, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution and high-quality service, even under tight timelines or changing guest counts.

Description

Executive Sous Chef - Mason Street Grill

Our team prides itself on delivering consistent, exceptional dining experiences. If you are an enthusiastic, driven culinary leader with the ability to combine creativity, precision, and high-level operational oversight, Mason Street Grill is seeking an Executive Sous Chef who can elevate both the guest experience and the performance of our culinary team.

As part of Mason Street Grill within the iconic Pfister Hotel and the growing Marcus Hotels & Resorts portfolio, this role offers far more than a single restaurant opportunity. Our associates have access to a wide range of career growth, leadership development, and advancement opportunities across multiple luxury hotels, restaurants, spas, and resorts throughout the company.

As Executive Sous Chef, you will play a critical leadership role-training, mentoring, and supervising all culinary staff while ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation. In partnership with the Executive Chef, this position helps guide menu execution, cost controls, safety standards, and daily kitchen operations. The Executive Sous Chef also oversees all food operations in the Executive Chef's absence, including Pastry, Purchasing, Stewarding, and Private Dining.

Mason Street Grill in downtown Milwaukee has become a local favorite for wood-grilled steaks, fresh seafood, handcrafted cocktails, and live jazz. In addition to great food and drinks, we provide exceptional service you cannot find anywhere else. At Mason Street Grill, we want to serve experiences. Whether it is the enticing aromas from the grill, the energy of live music, or the satisfaction of a perfectly prepared meal, we strive to create moments that bring guests back again and again.

What you will be doing

* Lead and support the culinary team to ensure efficient operations and consistent execution of standards.

* Recruit, train, and develop associates while fostering teamwork, accountability, and exceptional guest service.

* Ensure all dishes meet established recipes, quality benchmarks, and presentation standards.

* Manage scheduling, labor utilization, and payroll control to maintain proper staffing levels.

* Oversee food purchasing, receiving, storage, rotation, and inventory in full compliance with health and safety regulations.

* Ensure cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards are maintained in the kitchen.

* Support events, VIP functions, and other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

* High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary degree or apprenticeship preferred.

* Minimum 3-5 years of progressive culinary leadership experience in a hotel, resort, or upscale dining environment.

* Comprehensive knowledge of food products, preparation methods, and culinary standards

* Ability to effectively manage food and labor cost controls.

* Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

* Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What's in it for you

* Competitive Salary

* Eligible to participate in Restaurant Incentive Program

* Sign-on Bonus up to $2,500

* Relocation Package Available

* Discounted on-site self-parking.

* Early wage access, paid time off, and company-paid life insurance.

* Medical, dental, and vision insurance available after 30 days of employment.

* Employee Assistance Program and 401(k) with employer match.

* Career growth opportunities with the ability to transfer within the company while maintaining service credit

* Complimentary, well-balanced meal every shift.

* Room discounts at Marcus Hotels & Resorts and Historic Hotels of America properties.

* Savings at Marcus restaurants, lounges, cafes, golf courses, ski resorts, and spas, and "two-for-one" Marcus Theatres movie tickets
