Job description

Be part of Fairbanks’ premier gold mining attraction, where history comes to life. In this role, you’ll work closely with the President of Gold Dredge 8 to enhance visitor satisfaction and support daily operations throughout the attraction, including tours, the gift shop, train station, and outdoor grounds.

You’ll oversee all aspects of gift shop operations, including merchandise selection, inventory management, visual displays, and sales performance. You’ll also recruit, train, and support staff to deliver exceptional customer service. With a strong focus on efficiency, teamwork, and guest engagement, you’ll play a key role in preserving and sharing Alaska’s rich gold mining heritage.

Salary and Benefits:
$90,000–$110,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include health insurance, profit sharing, and flexible time off.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience in tourism, hospitality, retail, attractions, or a related industry.
  • Proven experience managing retail operations, including merchandising, inventory control, and sales performance.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to recruit, train, develop, and motivate a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, revenue growth, budgeting, and cost management.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a commitment to creating memorable guest experiences.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and scheduling platforms.
  • Knowledge of retail sales strategies, merchandising, and upselling techniques.
  • Familiarity with facility maintenance, operational safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of Alaska tourism and gold mining history is preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak operating periods.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, seasonal environment with changing business demands.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with community partners, vendors, and stakeholders.
