Lead Software Engineer - Backend (Golang / AWS)
About the Role
Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to design, build, and deliver scalable cloud-native applications. In this role, you will lead development efforts across complex backend systems, partner with cross-functional teams, and help drive engineering best practices within a modern cloud environment.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with strong Golang experience, expertise in AWS, and a passion for building highly available, distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable backend applications and microservices.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software engineers across the team.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Design and implement cloud-native applications using AWS services and modern engineering practices.
  • Champion software quality through code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate, adopt, and leverage emerging technologies and engineering best practices.
  • Support DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized application deployments.
  • Contribute to system architecture decisions focused on performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Utilize AI-enabled development tools and automation capabilities to improve engineering productivity and delivery efficiency.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 1+ year of hands-on cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience developing backend applications using Golang or other modern programming languages.
  • Experience building and supporting distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles, API development, and cloud-native application development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with significant Golang development experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with both relational and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Experience utilizing open-source frameworks and modern development tools.
  • 2+ years working within Agile delivery environments.
