What is a GM Procurement?

GM Procurement professionals are responsible for managing the sourcing and purchasing of goods and services for an organization, specifically at the General Manager (GM) level. They oversee supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure that procurement strategies align with the company's goals and budget. Their role is crucial in optimizing costs, maintaining supply chain efficiency, and upholding quality standards across all purchased materials and services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GM Procurement?

To thrive as a GM Procurement, you need strong expertise in supply chain management, negotiation, strategic sourcing, and a relevant degree such as in business or supply chain management. Familiarity with procurement software like SAP Ariba, contract management systems, and relevant certifications such as CPSM or CIPS are highly valued. Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and analytical thinking are vital soft skills for excelling in this position. These skills and qualifications are essential for driving cost savings, ensuring supply continuity, and aligning procurement strategies with organizational goals.

How does a GM Procurement typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive cost-saving initiatives?

A GM Procurement frequently works alongside departments such as finance, operations, and product development to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities. This collaboration involves aligning procurement strategies with organizational goals, conducting joint supplier evaluations, and participating in cross-departmental meetings to assess current spending and future needs. This integrated approach not only drives savings but also supports innovation and efficiency throughout the company.

The client is embarking on its SAP S/4HANA transformation journey, migrating from a legacy SAP ECC landscape that includes
SAP SRM. The new S/4HANA solution will consolidate procurement functionality into S/4HANA Sourcing & Procurement,
integrated with SAP Ariba for sourcing, contracts, and supplier collaboration. A core part of the program is the modernization
of Public Sector Grants Management to support the agency's federal and state grant lifecycle, including FTA (Federal Transit
Administration) funding.
Client is seeking an experienced SAP MM / FICO Consultant with Public Sector Grants Management expertise to join the
implementation team. The consultant will lead functional design, configuration, and delivery across procurement, finance,
controlling, and grants management workstreams, partnering closely with the client and the GSI prime.
Key Responsibilities:
Functional Design & Configuration
•Lead design and configuration of SAP MM in S/4HANA: Materials Management, Procurement, Inventory
Management, Logistics Invoice Verification, and Source Determination.
•Configure SAP FICO across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, new Asset Accounting (FI-AA),
Bank Accounting, and Controlling (CCA, PCA, Internal Orders, Product Costing where applicable).
•Configure Public Sector Management - Grants Management (PSM-GM) and the integration with Funds Management
(FM), Funds Reservation, and Budget Control System (BCS).
•Design grant master data, sponsored programs, sponsored classes, budget structures, billing rules, and revenue
recognition aligned with federal grant compliance (FTA, Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200).
SRM-to-S/4HANA Transition
•Lead functional analysis and process mapping of legacy SAP SRM scenarios (shopping carts, contracts, RFx, supplier
collaboration) into the target S/4HANA Sourcing & Procurement and SAP Ariba footprint.
•Conduct fit-gap analysis, identify Clean Core opportunities, and document target-state process flows.
•Define the strategy for catalog content, contract management, and operational procurement flows in the post-SRM
landscape.
Ariba Integration
•Define and validate integration scenarios between S/4HANA and SAP Ariba (Sourcing, Contracts, Buying & Invoicing,
Ariba Network) via Cloud Integration Gateway (CIG) or SAP Integration Suite.
•Partner with integration and technical teams on iFlow design, error handling, and reconciliation across PO, GR,
invoice, and payment flows.
•Drive end-to-end testing of procure-to-pay scenarios between S/4HANA and Ariba.
Project Delivery
•Conduct discovery and design workshops with business stakeholders; document business requirements and produce
functional specifications.
•Author configuration rationale documents (CRDs), functional specifications (FSDs), test scripts, cutover plans, and
hypercare runbooks.
•Support data migration activities including Business Partner conversion, master data harmonization, and open
document migration (open POs, open invoices, open grants, open commitments).
•Lead UAT facilitation, training enablement, and hypercare support post go-live.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
•10+ years of total SAP consulting experience, including at least 2 full-lifecycle SAP implementations and at least 1
S/4HANA implementation (Greenfield, Brownfield, or Selective Data Transition).
•Hands-on configuration experience across SAP MM and SAP FICO in both ECC and S/4HANA environments.
•Minimum 3+ years of experience with SAP Public Sector Management - Grants Management (PSM-GM) and Funds
Management (FM).
•Prior experience with SAP SRM (Classic, Extended Classic, or Standalone) and demonstrated experience with SRM-to-
S/4HANA or SRM-to-Ariba transitions.
•Demonstrated experience with SAP Ariba integration to S/4HANA (Sourcing, Contracts, Buying & Invoicing, Network).
•Public sector, transit, or transportation industry experience strongly preferred.
Functional & Technical Skills
•Strong working knowledge of S/4HANA simplifications: Business Partner, ACDOCA Universal Journal, simplified
procurement, new Asset Accounting, Material Ledger.
•Familiarity with federal grant lifecycle (pre-award, award, post-award, closeout), Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200, and
FTA grant programs (e.g., Section 5307, 5337, 5339).
•Strong cross-module integration knowledge: MM ↔ FI, MM ↔ CO, GM ↔ FM ↔ FI.
•Familiarity with Fiori applications for procurement, finance, and grants management.
•Working knowledge of SAP Activate methodology and Agile/Scrum delivery.
Soft Skills
•Strong workshop facilitation, requirement elicitation, and stakeholder communication.
•Comfortable operating in GSI-led delivery environments with multiple partners.
•Self-directed, accountable, and comfortable in fast-paced consulting engagements with shifting priorities.
Preferred Qualification:
•SAP certifications in S/4HANA Sourcing & Procurement, S/4HANA Financial Accounting, or SAP Public Sector.
•Exposure to SAP BTP, CDS views, Clean Core principles, and side-by-side extension patterns.
•Experience with SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Solution Manager, and modern test management tools.
