Job Description
Ares is seeking an Analyst, Software Engineer to join the Credit Technology Engineering team and contribute to the development, testing, deployment, and support of technology solutions powering the firm's global credit investment platform.
Reporting to the VP, Credit Engineering Lead, this role will serve as an early-career hands-on software engineer, working with senior engineers to build applications, APIs, data services, and platform capabilities across the credit investment lifecycle, including deal origination, underwriting, portfolio monitoring, risk management, and investment analytics.
The successful candidate will contribute directly to software development while building skills in modern full-stack engineering, cloud-native development, software delivery practices, testing, documentation, and production support.
The ideal candidate will bring strong software engineering fundamentals, a desire to learn enterprise application development, and an interest in financial services, investment management, credit, lending, or alternative asset management technology.
This individual will collaborate closely with engineers, Product Management, Investment Technology stakeholders, and business partners to deliver maintainable, high-quality technology solutions that support the firm's growing credit business.

Primary functions & responsibilities
Hands-On Software Development
Develop software features and enhancements under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Contribute to front-end, backend, integration, and data-layer development activities.
• Assist in building and maintaining APIs, services, and user-facing applications supporting investment workflows.
• Write clean, maintainable code aligned with established engineering standards.
• Participate in code reviews and incorporate technical feedback from senior engineers.
Application Testing & Support
Participate in unit testing, integration testing, release validation, and deployment support activities.
• Assist with troubleshooting, debugging, and production support under the direction of senior engineers.
• Support documentation of application functionality, technical changes, operational procedures, and support runbooks.
• Help maintain application reliability, quality, and operational stability.
Platform Learning & Technical Development
• Develop knowledge of the firm's credit technology ecosystem and investment workflows.
• Build proficiency in full-stack engineering practices, APIs, databases, cloud-native development, and DevOps processes.
• Learn modern engineering practices related to source control, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and software delivery.
• Stay current on relevant technologies, frameworks, and development patterns.
Cloud, Data & Integration Support
Assist in developing solutions using cloud-native technologies and containerized application patterns.
• Support integrations across investment platforms, reporting platforms, operational systems, and enterprise data environments.
• Contribute to solutions using relational and non-relational database technologies.
• Support data delivery, reporting, and analytics capabilities in partnership with senior engineers and Data & AI teams.
Software Development Lifecycle
Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
• Work within Agile delivery processes and team ceremonies.
• Use source control, CI/CD pipelines, development tools, and release processes in accordance with team standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on code quality, delivery effectiveness, and operational support.
Team Collaboration
Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, business analysts, and Investment Technology stakeholders.
• Communicate progress, risks, blockers, and technical questions clearly and proactively.
• Demonstrate ownership, attention to detail, accountability, curiosity, and willingness to learn.

qualifications
Education: BS in Computer Science or related field is required
Experience Required:
0-2 years of software engineering experience.
• Academic, internship, co-op, or early professional experience developing software applications preferred.
• Experience participating in software projects through coursework, internships, co-ops, or professional roles.
• Experience collaborating with engineers, product managers, business analysts, or project teams preferred.
• Exposure to enterprise application development, production support, or Agile delivery environments preferred.
• Financial services experience is not required; interest in financial services, investment management, credit, or lending technology is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, solve problems, incorporate feedback, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
$80,000 - $90,000
