Job Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY:
Objective: The Manufacturing Engineer at Magna Engineered Glass champions process development, production start-up, production support and the implementation of engineering changes and process improvements. Ensures environmental aspects of production are considered.
Scope: Leading process development for new programs. Continuous improvements for current production. Researching new technologies and implementing them. Documenting and training manufacturing team on new rolled processes.
ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop process flows and define manufacturing operations for new part quotes.
  • Lead or support PFMEA completion with cross-functional teams.
  • Specify and source new equipment; manage rollout to the production floor.
  • Create Standardized Work, Job Element Sheets, and related documentation to support new equipment and processes.
  • Coordinate manufacturing projects as the primary point of contact.
  • Research and lead approved continuous improvement and development projects.
  • Maintain and update plant layout drawings in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Support the development of in-process prints and production tools, including GD&T stack-up, CAD updates, and signoffs.
  • Provide technical input to Sales and customers to influence product design and offer cost-effective manufacturing solutions.
  • Communicate significant engineering developments and corrective actions to management.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to engineering standards and specifications.
  • Benchmark processes and parts across sister plants, suppliers, customers, and competitors.
  • Support MAFACT, lean manufacturing, standardized work, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 14001, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Submit and support CI and safety improvement suggestions.
  • Manage multiple projects while upholding Magna's Employee Charter and values.
  • Work safely in accordance with MIOSHA and OSHA guidelines, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Share best practices and actively support department and division improvement efforts.
  • Develop and deliver training for new processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
  • Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, demonstrating flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs and priorities.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a combination of 3-5 years of related experience/training and/or equivalent education.
  • Experience creating Manufacturing Process Prints, Standard Work Instructions, and Job Element Sheets.
  • Automotive engineering background required, with preferred experience in transmission components, machining (turning & grinding), laser welding, induction heat & certification, spline cutting and rolling.
  • Hands-on experience running and troubleshooting machinery, with aptitude in mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with machining equipment including CNC lathe and mill; working knowledge of G-code preferred.
  • Proficient in GD&T.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to analyze issues using 5 Why methodology, research root causes, and develop effective, creative solutions with sound decision-making.
  • Ability to interpret and apply a range of instruction formats (written, oral, diagrams, schedules) and address problems lacking standard solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), project management software, AS400 database systems, AutoCAD, and spreadsheet creation.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines, including extended hours when needed.
  • Proactive mindset with ability to recommend process, policy, and system improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to listen actively, deliver feedback constructively, write reports and correspondence, and present effectively to teams or customers. Must demonstrate professionalism, assertiveness, and fluency in English. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
  • Willingness to pursue continuing education for skill development.
  • Solid understanding of applied mathematics, including probability, statistical inference, geometry, and practical use of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, rates, and graphs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Office Environment: est. 40%
  • Plant Environment: est. 60%
  • The employee must be able to tolerate sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • It requires (Near/Far/Depth/Color) vision in order to be able to tolerate the eye strain associated with working on a computer throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to tolerate the use of a keyboard and mouse on average of 6 hours per workday.
  • While working in the Plant environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process.
  • This role operates primarily in a manufacturing facility and environment. Occasional travel may be required.
