Does GitHub hire remotely?

GitHub offers many remote job opportunities across various roles, allowing employees to work from home depending on the position and team needs. Remote work is common in tech companies, and candidates often need strong communication skills and familiarity with collaboration tools like GitHub itself. Availability of remote positions can vary by role and location requirements.

What can I expect from the onboarding process when joining GitHub as a remote employee?

When you join GitHub as a remote employee, you can expect a structured onboarding process designed to help you integrate smoothly with your team and the company's culture. The process typically includes virtual orientation sessions, access to extensive documentation, and a dedicated onboarding buddy or mentor to guide you through your first few weeks. You'll participate in team meetings via video calls and use collaboration tools like Slack and GitHub itself to stay connected. This supportive environment helps new hires quickly adapt to remote workflows and build strong relationships across teams.

What are Github Remote jobs?

Github Remote jobs are positions offered by GitHub or companies using GitHub that allow employees to work from locations outside of a traditional office setting. These roles can span various departments such as engineering, customer support, product management, and more. Remote jobs at GitHub typically emphasize collaboration through online tools, flexible schedules, and self-motivation. Working remotely for GitHub or in a GitHub-centric environment means using GitHub's platform for version control, code review, and project management, making it essential to be comfortable with digital communication and teamwork.

What is the difference between Github Remote vs Software Developer?

AspectGithub RemoteSoftware Developer

Github Remote refers to remote job opportunities that primarily involve working with GitHub for version control and collaboration, often in open-source or freelance projects. Software Developer is a broader role that involves designing, coding, and maintaining software across various industries and environments. While Github Remote positions focus on remote collaboration using GitHub, Software Developers may work in diverse settings, with or without remote options.

How to make $1000 a week remote?

A remote developer role, such as a GitHub remote position, can potentially earn $1000 or more per week by working on high-demand projects, freelance contracts, or full-time employment with competitive pay. Building strong skills in programming languages, version control, and collaboration tools, along with a solid portfolio and consistent client or employer relationships, can help achieve this income level.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GitHub Remote employee, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GitHub Remote employee, you generally need strong software development skills, experience with version control (especially Git), and familiarity with open-source collaboration, often backed by a relevant degree or significant practical experience. Proficiency with GitHub's platform, code review tools, CI/CD systems, and cloud-based workflows is essential. Excellent written communication, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently in a distributed environment are standout soft skills. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality projects, collaborating effectively across time zones, and contributing to GitHub’s distributed, open-source-driven culture.

Is it hard to get hired at GitHub?

Getting hired for a remote role at GitHub typically requires strong technical skills, experience with version control and collaboration tools, and a solid understanding of software development practices. The hiring process often involves multiple interview stages, coding assessments, and demonstrating proficiency in relevant technologies. Competition can be high, so showcasing relevant experience and a strong portfolio can improve chances.

Why are people moving away from GitHub?

People moving away from GitHub often cite concerns over pricing, data privacy, or desire for alternative features offered by other platforms. Some developers prefer open-source or self-hosted solutions like GitLab or Bitbucket for greater control and customization. These shifts can impact roles like GitHub remote positions, which may require familiarity with multiple version control tools.

Job description

Who we are

More efficient. More accurate. More accessible. Exol is bringing industry-leading automation to businesses of all sizes through an innovative warehouse-as-a-service model.

What we need

Exol is seeking an experienced and security-focused Senior DevOps Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between software development and IT operations, ensuring our infrastructure and software delivery pipelines are efficient, scalable, and secure.

You will be the subject matter expert of our cloud infrastructure, heavily focused on Google Cloud Platform. You will work directly with software developers to automate software deployment workflows, infrastructure as code (IaC) pipelines, and ensure high availability for our software services.

This is a fast-paced environment where agility is key. We need someone who can not only write clean, modular Terraform code but also strategize on cloud architectures and operational excellence.

What we do

Exol* is pioneering fulfillment as-a-service, offering outsourced warehousing operations and specializing in automated warehousing solutions. Our focus is on the efficient movement of goods in cases and pallets across all sectors, such as CPG, food and beverage, wholesale, and retail.

*Exol is an independently managed joint venture between Symbotic and Softbank

What you'll do

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, build, and maintain production-grade cloud infrastructure using Terraform.

  • You will be responsible for state management, module development, and ensuring our delivery pipelines are efficient, repeatable, and scalable.

  • Cloud Architecture: Architect and deploy secure, scalable solutions on GCP (GKE, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, Cloud SQL, VPCs, etc).

  • CI/CD Implementation: Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins) to enable seamless code deployment from development to production.

  • Multi-Cloud Strategy: Leverage your experience with other cloud providers (AWS or Azure) to assist with integrations, migrations, or disaster recovery strategies.

  • Reliability & Monitoring: Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Google Cloud Operations Suite) to ensure system health.

  • Collaboration: Act as an embedded consultant for the software development team, helping them containerize applications (Docker/Kubernetes) and troubleshoot issues.

What we need

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years of DevOps or Cloud Engineering experience, with multiple years working in GCP.

  • Terraform Expertise: Deep proficiency in Terraform is non-negotiable. You must have experience writing custom modules, managing remote state, and preventing infrastructure drift.

  • Cloud Versatility: Demonstrated experience with multiple cloud providers is required.

  • Containerization: Strong experience with Docker or Kubernetes or GKE specifically.

  • Scripting: Proficiency in Python, Go, or Bash for automation tasks.

  • Environment: Proven track record working in a fast-paced software start-up environment; ability to context-switch and manage competing priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCP Professional Cloud Architect or DevOps Engineer certification.

  • Experience with "GitOps" workflows (e.g., ArgoCD, Helm Charts).

  • Proven knowledge of security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001) and deploying secure infrastructure.

  • Experience deploying and managing database platforms and storage lifecycles.

Our Environment

  • Travel could be up to 10% of the time. Employee must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

  • This is an in-warehouse role; you'll spend time on the floor as well as in the office.

  • Flexibility to work multiple shifts (day, swing, night) or be on call depending on operational demands.

  • Ability to walk/stand for extended periods, climb stairs/ladders, and tolerate warehouse environmental conditions (temperature variations, noise, etc).
