Job description

Greenville ISD Police Officer

Reports to: Greenville ISD Chief of Police


Primary Purpose

Provide law enforcement and security services to protect students, staff, visitors, and district property in accordance with the Texas Education Code 37.081, Texas Penal Code, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, and Greenville ISD Board Policy. Promote a safe, secure, and positive learning environment through proactive, community-oriented school policing.


Qualifications

Education / Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE
  • Must meet and maintain all TCOLE, district, and legal requirements
  • Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Knowledge of school-based law enforcement practices and student-centered policing
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community
  • Strong communication, report-writing, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

Experience:

  • Prior law enforcement experience preferred
  • School-based or community policing experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Law Enforcement & Campus Safety

  • Enforce laws and district policies on school property and at district-sponsored events
  • Maintain a visible presence on campuses to deter crime and enhance safety
  • Respond to emergencies, incidents, and calls for service

School-Based Policing & Prevention

  • Build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Support campus administrators with safety, discipline, and threat assessment processes
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, and safety planning

Investigations & Documentation

  • Conduct investigations and prepare accurate reports
  • Collect and preserve evidence as required
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement agencies when necessary

Security & Compliance

  • Conduct patrols of district facilities and property
  • Assist with security audits and safety inspections
  • Ensure compliance with GISD safety procedures and protocols

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain required training, certifications, and firearms qualifications
  • Uphold departmental standards, ethics, and professionalism
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, run, restrain individuals, and respond quickly to emergencies
  • Carry and operate standard law enforcement equipment

  • Ability to remain calm, alert, and decisive in high-stress situations
