Job description

Job Description:
Position Purpose
The GIS Technician will provide expertise and support during the installation, implementation, continuous improvement and ongoing usage of the department's new GIS system. The candidate will serve as a resource to both technical and non-technical users of the system. This position will configure and develop the GIS system to meet the business needs of the Facilities Management department as well as the campus at large. Responsible for adding integration between the GIS system and other software products such as the FM IWMS system-Planon. This position will also be responsible for creating GIS standards for Brown FM as well as best practices for the use of the system.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in: Geography, GIS, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning or related field; minimum of 3-5 years' professional experience, ideally in a GIS department or related role in a professional setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) preferred
  • Experience with Facilities Management operations preferred
  • Experience in setting up and configuring GIS software applications to meet user specifications.

Job Competencies
  • In depth knowledge of a variety of applications for GIS integrations, database management systems. Also, writing process scripts and programming is helpful.
  • Strong technical abilities to troubleshoot, support, and maintain critical hardware/software components supporting a 24x7 operation.
  • Knowledge of project management to manage deliverables
  • Ability to design, develop and implement new system applications as appropriate, and to review, analyze and modify existing systems and programs as necessary.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to act professionally and cordially with customers and co-workers is required.
  • The ability to create and deliver training curriculum. Work with the FM Training & Outreach Specialist for setting up the training curriculum.
  • Strong service orientation
  • Excellent organization/time management skills
